I requested more info about this laptop on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Toshiba-Qosmio-G20-126-New-and-Boxed-2-13GHZ-1GB200GB_W0QQitemZ160002713030QQihZ006QQcategoryZ11682QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
This is the reply I got:
"First I want to tell you that my computers are brand new ,all accessories included and also an international warranty.
The invoice will come at the same time with the package. My buy it now price is the best you could get: 900usd/unit, including the shipping and insurance taxes.
We will pay them because the package will be delivered from Europe. As delivery service we use

UPS2days air service (with insurance and 15 days return policy), because it's the faster.

Deal will be done with ebay for our security , with invoice so we can exchange feedbacks .

Mail me back ASAP and i will register the deal with eBay
    Thanks"
Is this all above board or if not, where's the catch? How does this get monitored by ebay and most importantly is there comeback with ebay (via paypal, etc)?

Also look at the questions bit at the end they have "This is not our listing, DON'T send payment to the paypal account show on the said auction. eBay will be end this auction immediately" as the answer for all of them?!

    Thanks for the replies.
So in effect what you are saying is that this account has been hijacked by the person trying to sell the laptop? Was wondering what could be wrong given that there's over 99% positive feedback by 15k ebayers but this makes some sense.

I've actually got some items delivered from Hong Kong before and everythings been fine so this didn't raise any suspicion for me

OK, Sorry if I phrased that poorly, Hong Kong is great for buying small good such as memory (I got my SD card from hong kong there) or other devices. Seeing a lappy at only 300 yoyos which would retail at around 2000 would not only raise suspictions but the fact that the country is outside of the EU even more so, I appauligise for that poorly phrased sentence. Also notice the seller is registered in Hong Kong but item is located in UK ;) Another bit of proof, and even people with top feedback fall into hackers traps, especially if their expecting info from ebay etc....

    sorry for the mis understanding

    Nick

Edit: Look at the highest bid member keeps their ID private ;) Theres another hint, scammers use friends to Bump up a product cost....

If you look at the digital shop - they are actually:
"We are the wholesale in Hong Kong. This is the best source for Digital Camera, Lenses !!"

search e-bay for one of the descriptions and you come up with the same thing elsewhere - lots of hacked accts/dodgy accts.

eg. "Apple MacBook Pro 17" 2.16Ghz 2Gb Ram 100GB Intel Duo"
    has 6 exact matches.

What can stink of fraud is when you get an email on the main page(gmail as well -> dodge) reason is usually that when you click ask seller a question email generates an email to the a/c holder, if it is fake he obviously does not want you to do that as it will be recieved by the original owner of the a/c. I have contacted using the "ask seller a question" and not the email address supplied and found on many an occasion a reply sayin that they had no knowledge of the auction and that the a/c has been obviously hi-jacked. Next day user-> not registered. Try that out of interest!!

Just read the rest of the post there now!! Knew it!!!! Seen it so many times

    Golden rules to follow!!!!

    1. check feedback
    2. read feedback
    3. use common sense with feedback
    i.e.
power seller with feedback all about great laptops recieved in no time -> good

20 odd feedback from sellers with names like sdfasd or asfdfs with comments like "item recieved good time fast thank great" -> bad
    4. dodge 1 day auctions for large goods, minimum five days!!!
    5. Keep as close to home as possible!!!!
    6. BE REALISTIC, YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR!!!!!

    This list is not exhaustive!!

For all things lappy and eBay:

Golden Rule #01 - Don't buy new/expensive laptops on eBay

Golden Rule #02 - Only ever buy cheap/second-hand laptops on eBay

(I'm on my 7th or 8th lappy from eBay myself in 3 years, never bought a lappy elsewhere, and only ever bought from UK or US).

    For all things eBay:

Golden Rule #03 - Do you homework: in addition to the very good advice about feedback above in the thread, how much have similar items sold for in the last month, what's the average B-I-N for similar items?

Golden Rule #04 - Regardless of the eBay item, never spend more than you can afford to lose for good (for Paypal insurance is a joke)

Thanks folks, message received loud and clear. As I said earlier, the only thing that made me think this might be genuine was the >99% positive feedback for over 15,000 users, but the account hijacking explains that.

I'm going to continue to email this guy to see what he proposes to do and see how long I can tag him along for.
