Anyone but Dell for a laptop?

    Hey,
My friends girl is heading off to Oz without him (looong story) and he is in need of a laptop upon which me may contact her from afar.

Now - all he wants is easy and big screen. ALL this laptop will do is internet. No games, nothing else.

But any laptop with a big widescreen is automatically a monster with a corresponding price.

Anyone recommend anything - ie. an average spec laptop with a top quality screen and chassis?

    Cheers!

With those sort of requirements, you really won't beat DELL really....their 1300 range is fairly sturdy, cheap and perfect for tasks like net browsing, music, dvds, etc. For a small bit extra you can upgrade it to a 15.4 widescreen as well...

I know you said anyone but DELL but is it worth having to pay extra just to get one elsewhere?

PC World recently have been pushing some decent laptops. Their cheapest one is about 489, again, would be perfect for what you've described. Screen is pretty small though...

My sister just got a TOSHIBA EQUIUM M50-244 from PC World for €750. 14" widescreen, DVD writer, 40G disk (not too bad), 512M RAM (just enough). Perfect for office stuff and emails, which is all she wanted. It's a nice laptop and would do fine for what your friend needs.

When you say big screen, does he want a 17" screen, or just not a crappy 12" one or something.

I'm using an Inspiron 1300 atm temporaraly. It does the job fine, only cost 399€ about 3 months ago.

Go to dell, 1300 costs peanuts as stated above and it'll cover him for everything he needs and more.

    There is no better choice.
