 have the likes of Clare/Galway/and Tipp any serious chance of all-ireland glory this year? can the "total hurling" of cork and kilkenny be beaten??

I cant really see the "Big 2 " being beaten tbh. I just feel they have too much about them and too mch strength in depth for the others.

Galway: Only got beaten by 5 points in the Final last year. I think they can build on it and trouble the two big teams again! Sunday vs Waterford will tell a lot. Good win and they are really in it. A loos and it back to the drawing board.

Clare: Like many expected more this year. Always dangerous and I wouldn't write them off yet.

Tipp: Better than I expected in the Munster Final. I think that game will bring them on a ton. Are in with a serious shout still.

Tipp can't be helped by the latest rumblings in the camp

As a Galway man i cannot really see Cork being knocked this year,Kilkenny possibly but not Cork.Last year was last year,Galway have yet to prove anything this year so only time will tell.

Was at the Waterford-Galway game yesterday, great game and good win for Waterford. We're definitely contenders now:D

The thing about tipp is they are always there or there-abouts. Tipp have the players to beat Cork/Kilkenny etc and in fact i'd put Tipp in a higher position then Kilkenny this year so far. (The league is the league)

Kilkenny have enormous problems as seen in the Leinster final.

So a thread on the best of the rest:

Galway: If they were genuine contenders they would have beaten Waterford - too many players not playing well. No All-Ireland this year. And probably not even a semi-final.

Watereford: Played well. Big confidence boost. Last chance saloon for a lot of the players and the manager. This win means they avoid KK and Cork in the quarter final draw so they have a chance of building on this win. Semi-finalists?

Tipp: Not sure if the discontent in the camp will be that much of a problem. Redser is no real loss. Webster not fit. Still a decent side. Can improve...semi-finalists?

Clare: As before. Enigmatic, is there a big game in them. Could beat anyone on their day. But will they?

Wexford: Mediocre performance - hard to know what to expect. But if a Wexford cannot raise their game against KK then I think it means they are not gonna be playing hurling in September, or in mid-August. You'd want them if you were Waterford!

Limerick: Hmmmmmm. A backlash from the players - maybe there is life in the team yet. They needed to salvage some pride which they did against Offaly - and they did have a good league. I think it is too late for this year. But can lay down a marker for next season.

Offaly: Getting better - but will not be a threat. A lot more imrpoving to do before an All-Ireland threat.

i would have to disagree. to leave in 2-20 does not make a team contenders imo

I think Waterford could be coming good at the right time this year - previous years they seemed to put all their effort into Munster. They need to get that Croke Park hoodoo of their backs first though

whats going to happen with the draw next sunday?

Is it an open draw ?
If its top teams in the groups playing the runners up of the provinces and second teams playing the winners then the draw could have teams who have met earlier in the championship playing each other again. ( or has this ever happened before at the quarter final stage??)

Clare will probably win group 1 with limerick second.
Waterford will win group 2 with galway second.

Waterford can either play tipp or wexford . But they have played tipp already in the munster semi final , so presumably they will have to play wexford.

This means Clare will play Tipp.

Limerick / Galway will play Kilkenny or Cork.

Is there any procedure for two teams from the groups playing each other.

Galway or Waterford ( if they fix the fullback line problems ) could be the ones to open up Cork. The sooner Galway play them the better.
Kilkenny didnt look great yesterday , but then again , its the matches from now on that are important - its all knock out.

I think Tipp could make it to the final. They showed in the Munster Final that they can trouble the "Big 2", and as said above, Id also put them above Kilkenny at the moment. Just if we get a tough semi-final draw, it might change, but there is a strong belief in me that can see them getting to the final

    The draw!

The runners up in the qualifier groups are drawn against the provincial winners.

The winners of the qualifier groups are drawn against the provincial runner ups.

It is an open draw. Unlike in the fooball, teams that have already played can be drawn to play each other. So assuming that Waterford top their group they can be drawn to play Tipp - who they have already played and lost to this year.

so as i understand it, if clare win the group, the next game will be V. tipp? that has potenial to be game of the year i reckon. speaking as a clare man, if we do beat tipp, i'd wonder have this clare team the steam to go and produce it again??

Cork look a fantastic outfit AGAIN this yr, jus hope kilkenny good put it up to them(wouldn't it be great if someone else could knock them at last!!)

Sorry you are correct , teams can meet again - i think cork played waterford in munster last year and then again in the quarter final , but i am not sure.

A lot will depend on how the quarter finals draw pans out.
