Gorgeous shot, though not quite sure what I think of the trunk being right in the middle of the frame. The way the leaves branch off to the left is really intriguing though.

Thanks guys :) It's gone to the stage now where if i see a few fluffy clouds and a bit of blue in the sky i'm gone out with the camera. Nothing like getting into the car and getting lost :).

theres actually loads of shots i can't wait to get when the cold weather comes back :)
Ye know the blankets of mist and the sun shining through etc etc.
I'd love to get a raindeer in the phoenix park with the sun shining through its breath :)

Really beautiful shot, I love the sky.

I'm not sure about the composition though. Its kinda wierd. The tree is dead centre, but its branches go left, and theres another post to the right... I'm just not sure.

Thats a nice scene, well spotted. Lovely skies up there. Contrast looks very flat again. Horizon looks soft so I'm wondering if you should have either kept it sharp or completely out of focus.

Sometimes having the main subject bang in the centre works and sometimes not.

Great sky and love the tones - the composition is spot on. Not 100% sure if the tree should be quite that dark, also the fence post (?) beside the tree seems to be darker at one end than the other, I would maybe try and have that brightened or if not try darken the base of it. Looks a bit odd that theres a skinny tree growing in the middle of the field - that probably helps make the photo more interesting! Cool shot.

Maybe a wee bit more bright...Or dodging on the lower third... Nice capture all the same.

Be nice if you got a shot with the tree on the right of the frame, with the rest of the landscape following out from it!

Did you shoot this in RAW mode?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 402 ✭✭AlisonB

Thanks a mil all for the comments and critique. As for the mode, I always shoot RAW outdoors and usually jpeg in studio.

Sorry if this appears really stupid but why shoot RAW outside??

(PS - I'm the noob here so be gentle :o )

Is it because you don't have control of the lighting outside but you do inthe studio?

Exactly, i use the light metre

    CHeck out this little gizmo

    http://www.whibal.com

Great for getting perfect white balance on shots indoor or outdoor. Shoot away to your hearts content, take a whibal shot and get perfect white balance when you process the RAW images.

You can use it for jpeg shooting as well.
