OK, Im posting this in the hope someone can offer some assistance..pleeeasse !

Long story short, my mother was made redundant from Aer Lingus over 18mths ago as she was told her area was for the high jump and basically if she didnt take the offer on the table she would end up with nothing. As it turns out now they never outsourced her function and now in the news today they are even offering to consolidate the remaining people! So you can imagine how tough this is for her, I wish I could turn back the clock for her but sadly she has found it more than tough to get back into the jobs market in North County Dublin.

Not posting this for a sympathy vote but if anybody knows of any any company or business looking for a hardworker can they drop me a PM or reply to the post? (Obviously I dont want to post up too much detail here)

Cheers folks, it would mean a lot :)

It was "voluntary" but as I was saying scare tactics were used to get her to go and at her age she prob didnt know any better.

After 18 mths Im afraid she is panicing, I was just hoping someone could help :)

She sure has. Unfortunately now the majority of jobs out there are minimum wage and its unbelievably tough to get sorted :(

She should check back with her union.

In your post you don't state whether your mother is looking for comparable work to what she was doing or prepared to do something different. Aer Lingus staff have traditionally enjoyed good standards of pay and conditions but need to accept that those types of positions are quite scarce now. Perhaps she is aiming too high. It might be easier to secure employment with reduced pay. I'm sure a lot of airport based companies would be keen to have someone with airport experience. Ground based operations and handling companies regularly advertise for staff. As a last resort she could seek work with the search units (CSU ?) - they are always advertising for staff. She should bite the bullet until something better comes along. It will also help her prospects as employers tend to prefer those who have remained in the workforce.

    Good Luck.

If she was misled, she may have a chance of a constructive dismissal claim. Her union would be best positioned to advise on this.

Yeah.. You could have something there.... difficult one though as she has probably trousered a few bucks redundancy pay...generally I feel Aer Lingus staff like to be spoon fed... afraid to take chances and do other things.. a legacy unfortunately of the Union ridden environment pervading thru the Airport.....and the Unions know its their "Alamo"....

I'm speaking generally now ... not about this lady...
