    Hi Folks,

plasterers finishing up on kitchen in new house - will be ready to start tiling shortly.

I need to get my hands on a tile cutter that can handle 2ft long tiles.

Any i've seen in shops handle a max of 18"

anyone know WHERE I can lay my hands on something decent pretty quickly.

p.s. I have an electric/wet cutter already.... but would like something that scores and snaps 600mm porcelain tiles as I've a fairly big area to do.

    tks in advance

    Hi,

Getting a plate cutter i.e. one that scores and snaps will be of huge benefit to you, it is possible to get one that will cut 600mm tiles. A good sigma tile cutter will do the job. Finding one can be difficult though - maybe someone else can help you out there....

As for the electric wet saw, be prepared to buy extra blades for it, and use plenty of water - even if this means you getting drenched. It is going to be extremely hard (altough it is possible) to cut them on a wet saw.

Check out Ebay. There's a few there for around £30. Type in tile cutter 600mm.

Don;t buy one for 30 quid, they are guaranteed to be brutal. I bought one (through my brother) at the beginning of the year as we had 600*300 porcelain in the kitchen for 180 euro. It is a sigma.
I saw them for rent in SamHire. Not unless all ur tiling is that size I won't bother.

I could be wrong but AFAIK you can only cut porcelain tiles with a wet saw. I did a large area (110 sq. metres) and at the finish the disk wore out. I tried everything rather than shell out the €60 for the wet diamond disk to cut the last few tiles but had to concede in the end and shell out.

No you can definetly cut them with a plate cutter, makes the job much easier - meaning you only have to cut L shaped tiles or other awkward ones with the wet saw - meaning you save on the blades - when using the wet saw the key really is plenty of water
