Fairly simple question. I'm dying for a bit of live poker. Has anyone had any experience playing poker over here? I got 2 weeks left which I'm doing nothing in bangkok (or wherever i feel like going). I understand most forms of gambling is illegal here, but where theres a will...

I have some weird idea that gambling is illegal in Thailand so poker may well be taboo. I have nothing to back that up whatsoever!

I think google is your man here tbh.

im going to Thailand soon... I know what Ill be doing when Im over there....

Dear god, what has made you think about poker while you are there? Is there not enough to distract you?

You will not get any poker over there. The nearest casino is on the boarder in Cambodia, as you leave thialand there is a sign saying that leaving will bring all the wrath or the gods on you and your family or something to that effect

if it's illegal do not end up in a Thai jail...go down to Chinatown in bangkok and get your gambling fix playing mah-jong with the crazy old dudes with no teeth, they play on the pavement (the law don't seem to apply there!!)

Russian roulette is popular I believe.... Oh no that's Vietnam.

Dev is right gambling is illegal in Thailand. I have a friend who runs a bar out there but Mrs Dim won't let me go out to see him. I wonder why. He likes a flutter and gets a bet on with illegal phonebookies - an ex pat like himself. But a poker game would be harder to find but probably not impossible.

I just asked my sister who just came back to Europe for a year (and will go back after that).

In Bangkok there are ~15 million people but not a single casino.

There is only one casino in the whole of Thailand, and that one is nowhere near Bangkok (aparently there is a little piece of nowhereslands on the border).

In fairness, would you want to play poker there in some dingy back street place even if you found one? It would be more akin to the days of Wild Bill Hiccock than Friday night in the Fitz.

One of my friends played poker with the Thai Mafia, in a hosue on the top of a hill on one of the islands when he went to score some stuff. Dont think i'll be to up for that though

I'm just back a week from Thailand. The best you can hope for is internet poker if you're sick enough to download a client in an internet cafe.

Or you could play a few hands of blind Omaha for 1000 baht a hand on the beach at 6 O' Clock in the morning after a full moon party whilst covered in paint and Whiskey not having a clue where you are or who you are. That's what I did anyway and twas a great laugh.

Im just back from 2 weeks there.I was in Pattaya and NL holdem is played everynite in an english owned bar called "Pussy Galore" on Soi 13/3.
Alternatively, there is a game 4 nights a week in the scandalic hotel with mostly scandie players, the saturday game being the best one with a €100 entry fee. most of the other games are €20-€30 f/o.

Pattaya ay? I'll say nothin :D

I lived over there for about 6 months recently and when i arrived people were telling me it was illegal and you can't even download software for gambling.
You can download the software no problem though theres a good internet cafe on Ko san road - somewhere in the middle under the purple sign walk down to the end of the alley!!
Pattaya aside i Couldnt find any live games and i have a feeling if you could youd be playing for buttons.
Don't think about hopping on a plane to Macau neither, while its full of casino's holdem is illegal.
I nearly lost the plot over there when one of the staff in the Sands casino asked me what poker was. ended up having to play $75 minimum bet 5 card brag, and it was a world of pain.

Howdy, gambling is illegal in Thailand 90 % Buddhist, I was in the casino atr Poipet, just over the border in Cambodia, was ok for a bit of laugh but you won't win millions there, remember its a third world country. I hear bus loads of Jap tourists hit the casino sometimes now these lads have money to burn and it would be well worth your while - although i would assume their typical asians and won't be that reckless.

There are places in Bangkok, check out Irish and English pubs around Sukhumvit etc - International exchange, Dubliner etc

But who wants to play poker in Thailand its such an interesting place with lots to do, especially in Bangkok - the shopping is amazing and ehem then theres the other side of the coin
