Any motorbike rentals in Dublin yet?

I asked several months ago if there were any rentals in the Republic or Dublin. I found one in Belfast but I'm not sure they'd let me go south on the bike. I realize the system may just not allow such a thing at this time. I did get a PM from a guy which stated that he was considering starting one. Any new news?

most un-frickin' likely, now that we're -1 on the insurance front.

I wanted to set up a business doing this for learners and tourists and could not get ANYONE to quote.

Bikes, and paying for them is the easy bit, it's the arseholes in insurance that's the problem.........

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

That's too bad! I dream of riding the whole country some day! Could I get across from Belfast if I rented one up there?

Rental companies are only insured for renting cars in the country where they are based and I assume the same is true for motorcycles in Northern Ireland. Each time I rented a vehicle (Ireland or France) I had to sign a form saying I would not be taking the rented vehicle outside the country.

As a result, my answer to your question would be no.

I don't ride for work. I've not been able to convince the higher ups. I was up in Milwaukee and learned of a great deal Harley Davidson has. They sell (at a discount) fully loaded Road Kings. Every few years you trade them in and get a new one for $1! I currently ride a 2001 Shadow Sabre (VT1100 C2) w/ V&H Longshots to please my ears. I used to ride a 1973 BMW R75/5 and my first bike, in lieu of a car, (when I was 16!) was a 1976 Honda CB 550 four. I was short sighted as I neglected to think about Indiana winters. Had to ride it to school in everything but icy conditions. I've had my knees in the breeze since '83!:D

Hm! That is strange. I've never had to sign that kind of form, but in all the cars I've rented the registration (or copy that is) states some contries to which I can't bring the car. (Most of them being part of the old Warzaw Pack...)

(On a funny sidenote I can tell you that a Norwegian citizen is not allowed to drive a foreign rental car in Norway - for tax reasons. Insurance has nothing to do with the case. Everyone else is welcome to bring their cheap rental car, but me - no way!)

Steffano, this is incorrect. That is a policy decision made by the business you are dealing with, there is no legal impediment.

If you ever look at the trail of rented Transit Mini-Buses that come over in the holiday period you will see what I mean. And, if you're logic were true, then if you rented a car in Aachen, you'd only get to see one end of town !!

In my experience going abroad is not a problem. I've been allowed to drive out of the country of rental provided I informed them of my plan. I've done Spain->Portugal, Sweden->Norway and France ->Monaco/Italy, and as far as I remember I always enquired before doing it.
