    Hi,
I am looking for an industry recognised project management course that I can complete. I would like some sort of standard certification at the end.

I work in Telecoms / IT industry and would like to know if anyone has done something similiar.

    Preferably in Dublin area.

    Thanks

My missus did a Diploma in Applied PM and became a Certified Project Management Professional. This is compatible with the IPMA's (International Project Management Association) standards. The IPMA is, as I understand it, mainly a European association, and in the USA there's the PMI (Project Management Institute) which is a separate thing altogether. If you do the IPMA qualification, which is apparently actually more difficult, then getting the PMI qualification isn't that hard, it's just a question of learning the sometimes different terminologies. Most US companies based here in Ireland only seem interested in the PMI qualification though. Beware though it's a bit of a money making scam too. You have to attend all kinds of seminars and stuff throughout the years to gain points to allow you to keep your qualification, plus there's the annual membership fee.

I have had dealings with one of the guys who lectures in Project Management in UL, and if he is anything to go by, it has to be one damn good course.

Anyway, try some of these websites:

    www.apm.org.uk

    www.ipma.ch

    www.pmi.org

    and closer to home

    www.imi.ie

Most 3rd level institutions do courses in Project Management, so check out nightcourses.com.

Sounds like I did the same course, with these folks:
    http://www.projectmanagement.ie/asp/
Got the IPMA and then sat the PMP exam separately a month later.
Bit of a money racket, but worth doing if your company is willing to pay for it, recognised qualification on the CV and all that.

    That's the one ... http://www.projectmanagement.ie/asp/default.asp?p=174.

Like you say, it's a bit of a racket, having to get all the PDU's to keep the qualification active, and you certainly wouldn't want to be paying for it yourself! The qualification is actually issued by UCC as far as I know.
