Has anyone tried using their DS Lite in wi-fi hotspots? eg. Starbucks

    Has it worked?

And are there any official Nintendo sponsored hotspots in Dublin? (like the ones mentioned in the link below)

    Ok,

    Found this.

Still, no mention of when the service will start or when those Openzone booth thingies will be installed into game shops.

Works fine in Cork Aiport which is a BT Openzone Hotspot.

Heh. I was travelling to the UK last week from Cork airport and was just about to take mine out for a spot of WiFi Tetris when I noticed a 6 year old girl sitting 2 seats away evidently playing Nintendogs. I didn't want to give the wrong impression :)

So, you can stop at a petrol station when you start getting road rage and have a quick game of mario kart?

My local Mc donalds have wifi but it does not work with the ds.
They use a password security thing not a wep key or anything like that.

WPA, possibly? The DS has no support for that.

Does the DS do an Ad-Hoc (direct) connection for multiplayer or do you need an access point/router?

The girlfriend is getting a DS and we would be keen on mario kart multiplayer - but not if it means having to buy wireless networking kit which would be useless in my house (old, victorian, thinnest wall is 9" solid brick.)

most multiplayers will let you connect directly to another DS, no extra hardware needed, 10m range

happy days - and what's your average airline pilots opinion on usage of such a network at 40000 feet? ;)
