Always helpful replies on boards. He doesn't care what you think of the game

Have you tried calling MS? They might replace it for a fee.

I had that issue with an EA game the shop I bought it from wouldn't replace it caus obviously I was abusing the disc even though I have there loyalty card and a long history of not returning cracked discs stretching back to my PS1.

EA new of the problem but still wanted €20 +postage to replace the disc. So I haven't purchased from either since... Scum

But Microsoft seem to care about there customers so it's worth a shot ;)

Wow amazing the difference between dundrum and Liffey valley from the sounds of things you were treated with respect rather than contempt.

It's funny how in the liffey valley branch last xmas I saw the store manger take some games out of the hands of a couple of thieving little scumbags who had just lifted them from behind the counter and very politely escort them from the store, not the centre mind, the same manager that a few weeks later insisted I had abused my disc and broken it myself, and refused to replace it despite me having the receipt.

Over the years I have purchased an N64, PS1, 2xPS2's and a 360 from Game as well as almost every game I owned for those consoles and numerous gifts for my nephews (and there were a lot of games purchased for them) Up until this incident, to be honest, I didn't mind paying a few € extra for the convenience but in light of this event combined with the fact that they overcharge on there 360 games by 10-20% I will not buy from Game again, I will not recomend them to people again and I will at every oppurtunity advise others not to spend money in Game.

Treat the shoplifters with contempt and your long term customers with respect, not the other way round.

Manager sounds like a proper yogurt!!

the good thing is there is plenty of competition out there so if Game don't step up - u have Smyths, Xtravision, HMV etc. all happy to take your money.

I've found XTV and Smyths to be the best at customer focus

Aye tis true, I have to say the x-box gaming centre in town were very helpful and were only asking for the rrp for most games once you signed up for there free membership so they've got my retail business.

TBH though most of my game shopping from now on will be done online my biggest fear was the "no comeback" bit with a web site but it's just as much of a risk when you buy retail, so why pay the extra?

damn straight....online is the only option to save money but agree with the customer care concern.
Had a problem with Play a couple of years back, they sent me the wrong DVD, I had to send it back before they sent the correct one and they credited me only half the postage!! said they only pay UK postage costs!!!

Let me start by saying i hate GAME. They're theiving scum.

BUT, in fairness, its pretty much unheard of that a CD breaks on its own, or even with held from a console/CD player. They probably thought you were chancing your arm, after sitting on it or something, which is understandable.

I worked in a big electronic shop, and the amount of people that try to return stuff under 'warranty' after the item clearly suffering damage through neglect is crazy.

"The laptop just turned off when i was checking emails" - yet, when you investigate the insides, it smells like beer/coffee/coke!

The way these shops are going now, it means little or nothing to Johnny behind the till if you spend 100's in there a month (which is easy now, 80 quid a game). It's about targets and margin, with minimal customer service.

I get what your saying Jammer, I've worked in retail myself and I understand the pressures of targets etc. but that's no reason to treat a shoplifter with more respect than a paying customer, regardless of what "johnny behind the till thinks" when a product is returned defective along with the receipt, consumer law is very clear that the customer is entitled to a refund or replacement.

And I do agree it is rare to see a disc crack without being abused, I have a large DVD, cd and game collection well in excess of 2000 discs and I have never seen one crack before, there were a lot of reports about it happening around the time of the 360 launch, for what ever reason i don't know but that is what makes me certain it was a defective disc. Either way I have reported the issue to both consumer affairs and tried in vain to contact Game's head office to register the complaint with them, they really should make it easier to lodge a complaint if they genuinely care about there customers.

At the end of the day I am out of pocket for a game, I'm not likely to see that money or game again. It really is the last straw as far as I'm concerned, Game, do not treat there clients well at all and to be honest if this had been a purchase from an online vendor I would have paid €15 to €20 less and wouldn't feel as hard done buy because I wouldn't have expected any level of service after paying under the rrp, game charged well over the rrp for that title and as a result I expected at the very least to be treated with respect and within the confines of the law.

Is that really to much to ask? where Game is concerned it appears so!
