    Hi,

I got my freeview setup working yesterday evening, wow, there are a lot of channels, some i.e. religion, sex ads and shopping chanells which I don't want. Basically I don't want these channels to appear when you scroll through the CH +/- buttons on the remote, so, What's the best way of blocking unwanted channels? The parental option doesn't seem to do much without a viewing card.

OK, Sorry, I should have said, it's a sky digibox, I bought it second hand with the dish, a shed load of channels were available once I got it going, I thought I had to manually select channels as described in the sticky above, I'm just wondering is it possable to de-select some of the standard channels like I can with the channels stored in "other channels"?

if i am understanding you correctly, then no, channels cannot be deleted from the Sky EPG, porn channels can be removed through the settings menus on the Sky box

You need a viewing card to use the Parential options. Then you can hide the porn channels and block any channel you wish. The porn channels will dissappear from epg but the others will remain but cannot be viewed without a pin number.

A fREE TO VIEW card can be bought for circa £20 on ebay.ie Just search for Sky Free to View card. The pin number should be the last 4 digits of the viewing card, if it not been changed already. A chance you will have to take. The added bonus of card is you will also get Ch4, Ch5, Sky3 now and Film4 from 21st July. Plus more channels arriving in the Autumn from Ch5.

save up to 50 channels that you want to FAVOURITES

you can then scroll through your choices by repeatedly pressing the blue button.

you can also look up your favourites on their own EPG page without any dross. press sevices then blue.

hey presto, all the crap is gone.

Excellent, a combination of blocking (Once I get the card) the channels and this would do nicely.

The favourites only wants to store 20, is this correct? or will this increase to 50 when I get the card?

ah, i think your box might be running an old software version.

there's a procedure to upgrade it, involving turning it on and off and holding down certain buttons on the box, somebody here will know it

    unplug the box.

hold down the backup button and keep pressed while you plug box in again.

release backup button when green lights come on.
