Reading the 'xbox shagged' thread there, I started to wonder...

When will MS solve these problems? ie. When will one be able to buy a 360 in the shops where the chance of the unit failing is the same as a x-box or a PS2?

    today!

Every consumer electronic device ever mass manufactured has had failures, the reason your hearing more about the 360 at the moment is because of a number of factors, it's users tend to be very internet aware and as a result tend to voice there anger/disapointment on various forums, as it's the new "must have" product the press/bloggers pick up on it more than say ps2 issues as it's not all shinny and new (stockpiling fire extinguishers for the expected flames I'm about to get :)), this is also exagerated by the fact that Microsoft are seen as an easy target because of there prominence in the overall market. It's a BIG name so everyone likes to here when they have problems.

The thing is if you go through this forum alone and add up all the faults that people have had and then look at that number versus the number of 360 owners there are here, I think you'll find it's about average for consumer electronics and consoles in general. "Yea my 360 is working today" stories don't seem to pop up terribly often.

On the upside I bought a 360 a week after release and it's been absolutly purfec ever since, *knock on wood* plus from what I've read Microsoft are doing a fantastic job of supporting people who have had problems, they quote 2 weeks to return a 360 and even reading the "xbox shagged" thread most peeps are getting things sorted well inside that time.

In short if your worried that it'll fail don't buy one or for that matter any electronic device, on the other hand if you want (imo) the best game console around what are ye waiting for? :D

    Good to hear someone's happy!

I found it interesting that all the toy/game stores in America had attachable external fans in prominent displays in their xbox sections and I heard the guy behind the counter in Toys'r'us in New York recommend that a guy buying a 360 should get one without being asked about them.

Hence, my question. It is slightly rich that MS are selling a console without sufficient cooling equipment.

The only people who have had heating issues really are people who are blocking the vents on the powersupply.

What McGovern said plus from what I heard that the lower voltage in the US adds to the overheating issue
