It might be interrested for some of you, fon.com are doing routers for €5 plus €18 postage to Ireland.

What you need to do is share your broadband with other Fon users More Info

That sounds very dodgy to me...

I, for one. am not sharing my broadband with anyone...

and....because they (FON) have 'doctored' the router, it doesn't have a warranty.

dodgy... maybe this is just too new for you

In Finland they have similiar projects, one has been on from around 2003 I think. Though you get the routers for free there...

So this is why there's a bloody shortage of WRT54GLs then. Komplett won't have them until October, just as I decided I wanted one.

It would be interesting to see if you can flash the FON WRT54GL with HyperWRT or DDWRT. If its possible the router a total bargain.

Good price for the router, but dodgy to go sharing your broadband. What happens when one of the other people starts downloading illegal music or kiddie pr0n? If your name is linked to the IP address then you're gonna get stung regardless of who may have access to it. Also the heavy penalties imposed by some ISPs for breaking the cap could also come into play.

It's a good idea, just not for everyone I guess.

wouldnt most isps have t&c's against this?

as above about everything from music to kiddie pron,
wouldnt the bill payer be responsible?

Emm you have to have a Fonero login to use the hotspot so its not just tom dick or harry that can use your connection.

Where did you hear that!!! about the long delay. I'm waiting to take delivery of one but it has been deferred for two weeks!!!. I hope I'm not going to get another e-mail from Komplett saying they are putting my order on hold until October.:eek:
