Mario Kart ds and friend codes question

Considering buying Mario Kart for the my new shiny ds lite and I've just got a quick question about friend codes.

Is there a built-in way to find someone currently online to play mario kart with or do you need to go to a forum enter a pile of friend codes and hope that someone is also waiting to play?

Oh no, you can select an inter-continental or worldwide match, and it'll locate random people to race with you.

and rivals
personally though the whole system of online play is preety annoying
if only it was something like gamespy

and also i have to many players in my friends list and when i want to play one person i keep getting another 3 rather anoying when you want 1v1

Thats what the locks are for !! You unlock all your friend codes , then whoever your trying to find you lock their code only and you should have no problems.

Can you mark someone as a rival or what?
