    hi there
    im thinking of downgrading my copy of xp pro to home edition because the professional is simply not legal discuss what do you think i should do?

    Well considering u cant ' downgrade ' as such, u will have to rebuild with the home version ............ i know what i would do .. or wouldnt do should i say :p

    that WGA **** i can styill use windows update with the cd i used but nowt else yes im going to format now

    Buy a pro XP licence/product key.

    MS have no ugprade path from XP home to pro. You can get an upgrade licence from Windows 2000 to XP (and possibly from win98/me as well) cheaper than the full cost of XP pro, but you must have a legit licence for the old operating system for this too.

    You know, a bold person I know, had the same problem he a legal version of home but had pro installed.
    He found he couldn't get past the windows validation part of the windows updates site, so he was about to go back to home when he discovered to his delight that a cool validation tool was available that replaces a system32 file and makes everything hunkydory, that was a about year ago and my bold freind has had no problems since, never had to do any nasty reformatting, but you know he has deprived Mr. Gates and co. of some money which is a bad thing and could face dire consequences in the near fututre.

    knew about the win 2k upgrade one, but not that u cant upgrade from home to pro, Msoft have us where they want us :eek:
