Just reading some of the reports on the live games in the SE, Fitz, red cow etc and my head keeps returning to the point
How do these lads get up for work the next day?
Red cow on the monday is apparently a 4am slog if you make it to the FT
the SE and Fitz cash games go on till the dawn, yet there's usually some boardie or two reporting on what went on...
I'd love to go in and give these games a go, Im not great, but Im not totally rubbish and think I'd do alright. But its the constant thing at the back of me mind going, 3am...shag it you're up at 7 for work.

So.....what's the secret? An endless supply of coffee and/or red bull or are all of you independently wealthy?

Become a poker pro and it solves all your problems.

I missed lectures and labs all this year during college cuz of those damn 7am cash games in the fitz and i came out with an honours degree from Trinity today.

A few nights of 4-5 hours sleep, one night a week going to bed very early, and plenty of sleep at the weekends. In other words, no life.

That is me anyhow. Also, I don't have to get up until after 9 so that might be cheating a wee bit.

I agree with you i always wonder how people do it too. However as far as the tournaments are concerned its not too bad to stay in there til 2 or 3 once a week. I usually go for a snooze after work and then head in for half 8 or so that kinda compensates for a late night but as i say i couldnt do it every night!!!

I just think once youre being dealt cards theres no such thing as tiredness at all. Once your going deep or making a final table at an early hour youve no concept of time, your wide awake. Thats how i feel anyway and i dont even drink coffee!.

I've done manys a days work after getting home at 6:30am. Into bed for an hour, then up for work at 7:30. 10 minute hot shower, followed by 10 minute cold shower. Several 5 minute power naps in the toilets in work throughout the day do you a world of good.

I've stopped doing the really late ones recently. Try to be home by 2-3 now. Had the flu for the past 2 weeks which was a culmination of all the late nights and general battering i was giving my body.

Become a professional World Cup watcher. It's a tough job and it's seasonal, but the hours are pretty good.

one of the main reasons i only play live once or twice a month.
Ive already organised to come in at 11 on friday (playing fitz EOM on thurs).
last time i got home after 5am, and fell into work at 11, to meet the boss, hopefully more prepared this time.

I use to wonder how ppl do it as well.to me it was really shocking.
Not just poker but when I first came to Ireland when I didn’t play poker I use to be amazed how ppl could go out on wed/thur/ night till 4/5 am drinking and then come into work the next day.
With poker when I first started I never use to have a late night and use to be always in bed by 11 or so.i only use to play late on the WE .
Then it all fecken changed eventually and gradually .first it was the one off late night during the week. Then it became maybe two nights every two weeks etc…
TBH your not missing much at all and that my honest opinion.if you’re a good player you make a bit of money but but if you haven’t gotten hooked yet I would advice you not to.it will take a while to get use to the whole poker thing and having a life as well. im still struggling my self truth be told and more than anything im hoping that I can find a balance eventually.
You keep telling your self ah look at the money and all that crap but I use to enjoy the money much more when it much less…

I understand that aspect of it...thats not what what the problem is, its the little voice that goes, without a good kip you're gonna be f*cked in the morning son ;)

perhaps I'll bust my cherry at a weekend/friday game

Practice is how I manage late nights, and I get loads of practice only having 3/4 hours sleep a night.Get yourself one of these "woman" that are doing the rounds have two kids then get her "up the duff" again.Sleep is now a thing of the past and I am well able to get bye on 3/4 hours sleep a night, after that a long night playing poker is as they say on Soccer Am "easy,easy...easy"

I had to meet a mate of mine recently at 11am. He picked me up in his car and I gave him a dirty cranky squint and said
    "harrummph, this is 'morning' eh?"
    He nodded.
"So, what do you um...'do', then?"

I can't recall the last time I woke up before noon. Its one of the things I like best about poker :)

Bloody show off. If I have to get up before noon on non working day I am extremely cranky, even if I was asleep at 2am and get up at 11am. It is 1pm minimum for me, Sundays on a bank holiday Monday are usually around 5-6 pm after an 8am finish in the Fitz.

Oh I hate mornings (getting up in them, not going to bed in them.

Time for my aforementioned early night. gg, wp.
