    Hi Guys,

I know its not anything to do with *NIX but Im hoping there are a few FireFox people in here who can help me out. The new IT manager in work in their infinite wisedom has implemented a new IT policy banning the use of Firefox and condeming us all to single tab hell. At the moment Im using portable FireFox on a thumb drive but now thumb drives are banned too. So Ive reverted to using remote storage like x-drive to hold it. The question is how can I disguise FireFox as IE. Im using an IE theme so from a glance its all good and Im using user agent switcher which has to be done manually, can this be done automagically? Any other precautions I should take?

    PDD

best advice is not to try and hide it. I know I hate IE but its a bit foolish to risk your job over a browser.

Better to highlight the latest unpatched exploits affect IE
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/06/29/ie_flaws/

Also been documented that US-CERT have advised against using IE

Indeed, NASA have already dropped it in favour of IE.

I think the following blog entry sums the whole problem up,
    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2006/02/2005_patch_times_for_firefox_a.html

Why, even if more flaws are ever found with firefox would you continue to use a browser like IE where critical flaws being actively exploited go unpatched for over a month. Where as with firefox the problems were caught ahead of them being actively exploited giving companies time to get the patches installed before having to worry about their uses clicking on something bad.

(An exploit was released on 28 may - patch not released until 13 December, thats pretty bad)
