Out of the loop - What's a good mid-range system to buy now?

    I'll be looking at upgrading from my p4 2.6, 6600gt 1GB 3200 soon.

    Considering the Conroe is about to be realised there's gonna be some price drops and flood of PCs going on adverts.ie.

    What should i be keeping my eye out for as a good upgrade from what i have?

    I want to be able to game extremely smoothly (HL2, WoW, Prey etc) but within reason re price.

    conroe would be a good upgrade to wait for.

    Yeah buy Conroe, with 2gigs of high latency DDr2 ram(it doesnt need good latency), and overclock it to ****. You would have a vastly superior cpu thats dual core for very cheap. Or at least wait for a month and pick up a Am2 X2 dual core for cheap. If they can get Reverse hyperthreading working it would be a blessing for gamers.
