I'll have to get four new tyres and the timing belt replaced over the next month or two and was wondering if someone could give me an idea as to what I'll have to pay.

I've heard that the timing belt will be about 150 but I've no idea about the tyres.

Also with tyres do you get a better deal if you go to a tyre specialist shop rather than your mechanic?

95 Honda Civic 1.4 (faux walnut heaven). Any advice greatly appreciated.

Timing belt can be expensive. Varies according to difficulty and access. I have no knowledge of how easy or otherwise a Civic is.

Tyre prices vary wildly. Shop around. On a 1.4 Civic you won't need F1 technology.

Put two new tyres on my 95 Sunny - R13 155/80 can be had from 35yoyo?? :D I've put more expensive tyres on a my mountainbike:o

R14 (or was it R15?) standard (not low profile) were about 50 each including balancing the last time I got em. This the budget end of the range though!
Wan-King Squealmasters I think they were. Do you remember the sound effects from the A-Team? Tyre squeal on almost every corner, including grass, gravel an dirt? Twas kinda like that.

eiretyres.net seem to do good prices on tyres - I would have saved over €100 when I last changed tyres had I shopped there. They don't offer a fitting service though, so you will get that done too.
