I'm thinking of importing a few classic cars for resale. Have any of ye any ideas as to what would sell well? I know if it was up to me I'd arrive back with another Rolls or a Cadillac or something. Any suggestions?:)

Depends on where you're importing from....;)

I'd say the U.K. from an ease of transport point of view and being RHD.

    They're ain't no Caddy that's RHD;)

I've seen a RHD Caddy, it was converted and wasn't a bad job either.
Has anyone got any ideas what classics would sell well? I want to stay away from the usual MGB roadsters and Morris Minor kind of stuff.

For RHD and rust free, think Australia and South Africa.

I think the cars that there is a lot of interest in at the moment are
    Jag Mk II
    Ford Mustang
    Citroen DS
    Rolls Silver Spirit
    Merc w111
Merc fintail saloons (don't know what their designation is)
    Merc 190SL
    Merc Pagoda SL
    Porsche 911 and 912

I'd imagine in your game the cars would need to sell for more than 20k to make it worth the hassle of importing them. If you had a lot of capital, I reckon old Maseratis are a sure bet. Look at the amount of people buying Merc SLs, SLKs, BMW 6s, and so on. That kind of money could get you into a very tax efficient and non-depreciating Maserati Bora with lots of go and so much more style and exclusiveness. Buy it right and offer a 6 month guarantee and you can ask for 10 or 15k to your buying price.

    That's my €0.02

From the P.M.s I've got a lot of people seem interested in diesel Peugeots and Mercs. I'd love to be bringing in Porsches and Maseratis but I reckon its too specialised. I've had some flash stuff over the years and advertised it in Ireland, countrywide, showed the stuff to loads of people only to be told it was the wrong colour or the engine size was too big or too small and ultimately ended up selling it in the U.K. and for more money in some cases.
I think I'd stick to bread and butter stuff tbh.

There's a crowd in Kill Co Waterford who import UK Mercs they tend to be w123 series. www.osheaclassiccars.ie unfortunatly they don't quote prices on the website.

They're not always the best at responding to email enquiries either - I got an automated response saying someone would be in contact and nothing more. Mind you, that's more that I got from that Pegasus crowd that advertise in the Irish Times...

There seems to be a niche market for diesel Peugeots (504 etc) and Mercs - I'm in the market for one and have found either heaps of rust or an oily patch where someone beat me to it. Last time I tracked down a 504 diesel in the UK someone from Ireland had beaten me to it as well.

Something offbeat like an early Saab 99 might be worth a punt. The likes of a good X19 is very hard to find here also. People do seem to have an issue with NCTs and road tax to a certain extent so the market probably widens the closer the car is to 30.

Rally connection RWD alternatives to Escorts, Fiat 131 Sport , Lotus Sunbeam, Chevette HS ,Manta ,2 door Ascona, Kadett Coupe ,70s Celicas.
Merc saloons are a safe bet though, good clean Triumph 2000/2.5s, theres enough Rover P6s in the country. Mk1 Granadas
