Never heard of the guy before last week, but in that week I've seen his two major films and I'm looking forward to the next. With everyone talking about Eli Roth being the new kid on the block, I'm surprised I hadn't heard this guy being talked about as a fresh face in horror. He's 28.

Switchblade Romance was excellent I thought. Seemed a little inane until
the twist. I mean, up until then I thought it was so incredibly random (but still enjoyable)
Then tonight I finally got around to seeing The Hills Have Eyes, the remake. Haven't seen the original, but I thought this was thoroughly enjoyable.

His next outing is going to be another remake, Asian this time, "Into The Mirror". I've seen it about before but never picked it up, I think I might the next time I see it.
Anybody else like/dislike Switchblade Romance/Hills Have Eyes?

I have the opposite view on Switchblade Romance. I thought it was a brilliantly put together horror and that the twist was a load of needless balls that dirtied it (and caused many plot holes).

I don't see how you can call it random either. It follows a straight line of events. It's not like monkeys start jumping out or anything.

    By random, I just mean
the killer finds a house out in the middle of the country and the slaughter begins. Out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, that was grand, but the twist made sense of a why there were so few little things explained. Although I still think it would've been a perfectly good horror without the twist.

Out of curiosity though, what plot holes are you talking about? I thought
the whole car chase scene was a gaping plot-hole, but I guess it was all in her head.

I loved switchblade romance, even with the twist. Many people say there were gaping plot holes but it never really bothered me. The way I see it she suffers from split personality. Shes schizoprhenic. Nobody complained about the car chase in A beautiful mind (okay maybe they did but not cause it was a plot hole:) ). Shes imagining it, simple as that. I understand peoples complaints that it may have been a bit contrived and a little to convenient but I dont see why its so hard to except.

Its also worth remembering that shes the one telling the story so its as she sees it (apart from the scene with the police in the garage, she wasnt there so she couldnt have commented on it thats why we see her on the camera). All in all I loved the film but I can fully see where people are coming from who hated it.

Not sure Id rush out to the other two films mentioned though. Hills have eyes got pretty mixed reviews and Iv seen the original. I dont feel better looking actors, glossier production values and view extra jumps are gonna change the film terribly for me. As for the other film Id have to check out the original first. but even the thought of another remake of an asian film is yawn inducing.

I mean the holes that Babyding mentioned and also
how did she know the garage attendant? If they had never met before then his reactions and speaking manor to her were quite strange. Also, how could he both look at her hiding behind the shelves and be talking to the killer who comes behind him? Also, where the **** did she get a big mother****er of a truck with huge bolts from? Did she pull it out of her ass?

Sorry, I hate being pedantic, but:
I mean the holes that Babyding mentioned and also
how did she know the garage attendant? If they had never met before then his reactions and speaking manor to her were quite strange.
He was wearing a name badge..apparently. It's an explanation I've seen anyway. I guess the reason she was talking to him as if she knew him is because in her mind, the killer did know him. That's why the attendant had a weird look on his face.
Also, how could he both look at her hiding behind the shelves and be talking to the killer who comes behind him?
Nope, can't explain that one! :o
Also, where the **** did she get a big mother****er of a truck with huge bolts from? Did she pull it out of her ass?
Alexandre Aja explained in commentary that there was a scene left on the editing floor that showed that the truck was on the farm all along, but felt that showing it would make things way too obvious.

I just take it as is:
she is schizoprhenic; any scene told in the movie through her eyes is simply how it unfolded in her head only, and does not necessarily mean that is how events actually happened or leave plot holes if you keep that very fact in mind.

Thought Switchblade Romance was very good, The Hills have Eyes; even better.

Would be greatly anticipating the next film.

Just watched The Hills last night and reading the above plot holes there were a couple in this:
how did the hand with the walkie talkie get outside the door of the caravan, I thought the dog (as he came back after they came out of the caravan) but he did'nt show up straight away. Also if its an American family how does the daughter have an Australian accent

Never really go for a film because of the director but certainly may look more into his because the two mentioned had very gory death scenes.
