Cool stuff; I heard they were doing it for wimbeldon, didn't think it was across the whole channel.

Looks like they're going to archive shows too... very nice
Anyone know if it's IP restricted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭seanos

Well there is already archived news/ros na run etc available (although I believe it is a pay2view service).
I'm unsure if the archives are becoming available.
I don't believe there is any restrictions.

It is it only their Home Produced shows they are providing? If so it prob isn't restricted.

    Looks good.

Have RTE or TV3 done this?

Not yet, the closest we got was when RTÉ forgot to drop the feed from the Haughey funeral, so it ran over until Sunday night, which was cool.

They will stream live Champions League matches next season though... so that's a start.
Must keep an eye out and see if they show everything or just home made shows

The streaming is being done by Setanta!

Got a "Setanta Broadband ACCESS DENIED" thingy there, no idea why, probably someone else on the VPN using it.

i only get a schedule

IE will work better than firefox for this stream.
Also, ensuring you have an up-to-date Windows Media Player/IE installed should help.
Access denied thing is ... odd, hate to sound cliche'd, but try clearing cookies/cache?
Also, try Setting 1-4, some will offer better performance depending on your ISP etc.

Can't get it to work in IE or FF, although I've had trouble with WMP for a long time.. tried launching the feed in WMP directly but it didn't work..

I had WMP11 installed, rolling back to WMP10 now to see if it worked (as 11 was a beta etc,)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭seanos

You getting error message, or it just not displaying video/sound?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

When I launch it in WMP10 it says one or more codecs could not be found... when I try it in IE or FF it just doesn't play... as I said though I've had issue with WMP anyway

Ah, yeah, once start getting those messages generally a bad sign.
I find the whole codecs issue with WMP fairly bad in general, if it works it's ok, but once it breaks, very hard to fix.

Would advise getting rid of any 'codec packs' you may have installed.
    The safest/best codec pack I've found is : http://cccp-project.net/
It aims not to mess up other codecs etc, try it out anyway, it may help your issue (and is a safe install either way).

Can't help much other than that, I'm sorry to say, found it very difficult to fix codec-related problems (I get a great black & white picture half the time, heh).

works fine at home but only on IE. that could prove handy for some folks, nice to see TG4 provide it

Indeed, great service and hopefully RTÉ will quickly follow suit for selected material.
The TG4 service has a 20 second delay at present - wouldn't expect it to be that long!

Without a Trace is currently coming through so unless someone has made a mistake I'm guessing it's IP restricted

    From the FAQ:

Can I watch all TG4 programmes live on the Internet?

You can watch many TG4 programmes live on the Internet. However due to broadcast rights restrictions not all programmes can be made available.

Worked fine in Firefox on the first attempt for me.

They are showing movies on this service too. Do they have the rights for their movies for international showings?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭seanos

The only international stuff they're showing is home-brew, i.e. their own productions.

Ireland sees majority of what is on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo
