Saw this today while browsing Wikipedia
'NBC Universal announced that there will be a web series of ten "webisodes" called Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance. The series is designed to focus on events that take place on New Caprica between seasons two and three of the television series, and will air on SCI FI PULSE'
    Looks good.:D

    Yip .
Each episode will be 10-15 minutes long.
The Resistance will last ten episodes, and will fill in the several-month gap between Season Two and the upcoming third year, during which the new Colonial home of New Caprica is under Cylon occupation.

Fingers crossed its the real deal so, sounds good on paper in any case at least, provided they don't try to cram too much crap into each short.

    Cool.

Does it deal with Apollo's girth expansion?

How he became Lord of the Pies?

Any word on when this is gonna kick off? Or if it's gonna cost money?

Well, one would guess that it'd hardly be free. Maybe they'll distribute it through iTunes like they did with the main series.

Which would be just great

3/4 months away, and trailers for season 3 are already doing the rounds, shouldn't we be seeing soon?

Or will it be released with season 3?

According to this thread on scfi's board, they start in August. Couldn't find any mention of them on scifi pulse though.

Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance will be web-based series that claims to fill in the gaps between season two and three of the re-imagined series. The series is a limited-run series that will last 10 episodes.

The webisode series is written by veteran BSG writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, and directed by Wayne Rose. The entire series is about 25 minutes long in total, and divided into 10 episodes.

When BattlestarWiki asked Bradley Thompson about the webisode series, he said:

"It's true that David Weddle and I wrote the webisodes. Ron Moore and David Eick assigned them to us during the production of Exodus. The ten short segments combine to tell one story, which takes place during the Cylon Occupation that ended Season 2. The webisodes plant seeds that come to fruition in Season 3. They were all directed by Wayne Rose, the veteran director who's been doing 2nd Unit and 1stAD work for the series. The original title of the story was "Crossroads." The running lengths will vary with what's necessary to tell each segment of the story. The first cut I saw of all ten ran about 25 minutes. The run plan we were told was that they'd put up one a week as a countdown to the season premiere -- but SciFi may have other ideas on that by now."

That would put the start at mid-august then. Sound enough. I still have episode 20 to watch. :D

How do you restrain yourself? :D To someone with NO will power, your dogged determination is mind boggling.

    HAHAHA. :D

I must admit that my wife restrained me from watching episode 20 immediately after 19. She likes battlestar too (though not a sci-fi fan in general). I did do a few weeks where I watched 2 episodes....but it was mostly the thought of having to wait ages until season 3 that kept me from watching season 2 in a frenzy.

First time I watched them all in 3 days, to numb the pain of the wait, I watched them all again about a week ago, in 3 days :)

Yeah, they're very easy to re-watch. I caught up with myself (PSP on the train) at about S2 E5, and haven't rewatched any since, though I will do (with the exception of those two episodes in the middle of season 2 that were a blip on the otherwise smooth ride).

Edit: The miniseries still awes me though. I don't think I'll ever tire of it.

My restraint ended last night. :D

Finally got the "who ate all the pies" comment. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

"who ate all the pies" is now staple humour in our house. :D

Anyway, back on topic....I found this on tv.com
This 10-part Web-only series will help to fill in the gaps between the end of Season Two and the beginning of Season Three.
We will see scenes from the Cylon occupation of New Caprica.

The series will "air" on the Sci Fi Channel's online broadband video site, Sci Fi Pulse. No registration or subscription is required to watch. The Web series is scheduled to begin airing in September 2006, although the exact dates haven't been announced as of late July 2006.

Something horrible has occured to me......sci fi pulse requires flash player 8.....I use linux (and amazingly have no access to a windows machine any more) and stupid macromedia have said that they will only release 8.5 for linux (at the same time as the linux version).

Would some kind soul extract this video for me when it comes out?

(btw, there's an interview with Commander Adama over on scifi pulse).

    edit: np user45701

Anytime I've tried to extract a video from pulse I couldn't. Videodownloader just gives an error message.

What program do you use Khannie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

    :( oh noes :(

I use flash player 7 (which is available for linux). Apparantly it is possible to get flash 8 working on linux through wine + mozilla. I'll look into this. Thanks quad.

I keep looking for updated release dates for this thing...and today I came across some more information on scifi.com (though there is a small spoiler in it).....

Watch a refresher before season three of Battlestar Galactica begins Friday, Oct. 6, at 9/8C. SCI FI is presenting a story-recap special called Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far. The one-hour show is narrated by Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), the Secretary of Education turned President
turned resistance leader on Cylon-occupied New Caprica
. Learn about humanity's costly struggle to survive against its deadliest enemy.

Couldn't edit my original post on the issue....in case someone else comes across this, I used this howto to get flash player 8.5 working on linux (through wine).

I was getting cranky checking pulse once a day for these, so I did a bit of digging. They were scheduled to launch on the first of September, but there's a pay dispute going on (edit: webisode only. This does not affect the main show.) so they wont be launched until this gets resolved (if at all).

    More information here.

"...webisode production has been at a standstill since June. "

    Well, that's that then.

There's no way they'll see the light of day till October/November in that case.

Up on Sci-fi chan website but only Americans can access it.

If you go to the world's most popular video sharing site you'll find it. Happily someone also made a .flv file of it for offline viewing.

I have a 19Mb AVI file of this which i found while spying for torrents.

It wasn't that good to be honest, I guess we'll see how Thursday's episode goes.

Now availble on youtube here. I haven't checked this one out myself yet.

Edit: Not sure why people didn't post links before. This is freely available by the scifi channel, the only reason they haven't released it to those outside the US is because of bandwidth v's revenue considerations.

Well....it's all about money really. They get their revenue from the US, so they (understandably) don't give a fiddlers about anyone that they're not getting revenue from. If they started charging a dollar per webisode, you'd pretty soon find that anyone could download them. :)

At the moment, with free webisodes, bandwidth costs money, therefore they restrict that bandwidth to those who are paying their bills.

Anyway, I'll be watching it, just not on the scifi website. It's no biggy to me (though I do agree that it is completely scabby).

Webisodes every Tues and Wed - nice!

Im willing to bet one of these Police traitor folk will torture Tigh for info on the Resistance by poking him in the eye with a big stick.
