    Hi,

I have been reading the different posts here about FreeSat. I recently got SKY installed in my home but want to be able to watch different programs in different rooms.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Does the LNB in the standard Sky Dish have room for the additional cable or will i need a new LNB?
    2. Would i Not be better off getting it installed for a month by sky then canceling?
    3. Does the FreeSat box have to be connected to the phone line?

    thank you

    Hi,
Firstly - Chances are the lnb has only one output so you'll have to replace it with a quad lnb - which is easily got.

Secondly- Sky don't sell freeview cards in ireland so you can't get them to install it - so you'll have to source a box yourself - Tony who often posts here is from satellite.ie and he should be able to sort you out with a brand new one and you can get the card off ebay.

Thirdly - Do not plug in the phoneline as it'll screw up the freeview card and it'll never work again...

    hope this helps

i have a freesat card, got from ebay. its workin away perfectly at the mo.

I wondered can any of the subscription based channels be gotten, even though im not connected to the phoneline.

Also why will card get screwed up if u plug in the phone line. i Was under impression once freesat card activated it will work in any box.

Also any idea how long these freesat cards will last for, and is it possible to get a replacement if anything happens to it?

If you are living in Ireland do NOT connect your digibox to the phone line, if you do sky will see that the freesat card is in Ireland and they will disable it.
With the freesat card the only extra channels that you can view are channels 4 and 5 and sky3.

a question that has come up before

with a FTV card inserted how does the Sky box ring a UK number from an Irish landline

    just a question is all

There are two methods of activating a freeview card...

1...insert card in box and if connected to phone line the box will dial sky
number to activate and if it detects a non uk number it will disable the
    card.

2...dial the number on back of freeview card and when asked give details of
digibox, model, serial number etc. Again this should not be done from an
    unblocked Irish number.

I think I heard of such a device too. It probably has a stupid price tag though. I wouldn't mind one for my UK subscription.

    Actually, after a quick Google...

    http://skycards.net/skydialer.php
    http://skytvcard.com/dialinfo.htm

Hmm, no price on first one, but second is €99! No thanks :)

I have one of these, and have been using it for over 2 years now. Works a treat. I picked it up a couple of years back while over in Portugal. It only cost 15€ I think.

Yeah, its exactly like the one you posted. White in colour come with a short telephone cable and also a power adaptor. Either 12v or 9v not quite sure.

    Excellent piece of hardware.

Wouldn't they just program all the boxes to dial +44 first?

see http://www.smart2check.com/products.htm for more reasonably priced diallers...

Decided to ring sky to see how much it would cost!

Now It was a foreign national on the phone so i hope i took her up right!

SKY+ with Multiroom = €149 for box + an extra €15per month but you have to subscribe to multiroom for 12 months

SKY Multiroom = €69 for box + €15per month for multiroom.

Really thinking about going ahead with SKY+ with multiroom if all it costs is an extra €15..

    hmmmmm things to think about

With regards to setting up one of these dialers, You need to go into the telephone settings menu on the sky box and set the prefix to "0" It then dials into the Sky uk system and shows up on their system as a uk number calling.

Somebody asked does it give you anything extra, well I have no idea as I only ever used it for activating UK FTV cards.

Does any telephony providers list freephone numbers on itemised bills? That might be one way to tell, of somebody has their box connected to phoneline and full itemised billing.

I think bond-007 mentioned the number before?
