Ive been in sydney for the past two weeks and decided to head to the casino this morning.

I had a look around and the cheapest holdem game was the $5/$5 NoLim game.

Im used to playing 1/3 or 1/2 PotLim live. Found out then that they had a fixed buyin of $200 so everyone starts out the same and they were just opening a new table so i decided to join in.

I expected the play to be alot better than it was. The players did not seem to be able to lay down a hand. I cleaned out a few players in about an hour and a half and was up to $1200. At this i said good bye but ill definatly be back again.

Ironically i thnk the only time i was not called to the river was when i had AA and it was folded to me in BB.

    Its called "Star Sity"

Its just beside Darling Harbour. About 10min walk from the center of the city.

I've heard the rake in Auz is very high, something like 60% due to goverment taxes etc.

What was the rake in the game you played?

I'm reliably informed the rake in that game is AUS$1/player/hand taken from stacks but that the game is still beatable.

just over the water in new zealand, i was playing in the sky tower casino a few months ago, in a 1/2 limit full ring game, EVERY person had to put in a dollar chip before the cards were dealt, and that dollar went to the house, i was disgusted, so played for 30 mins, won 50 bucks and left, couldnt believe it, like 10 dollars to the house for every hand that was dealt!!

    How?

    get online people

I assume because the players are just that bad. Also, that rake isn't as bad as it looks: 9 handed that is $9 leaving the table each hand which is < €6. There are no tips and I assume no bad beat (I know the bad beat goes back to the players, but that doesn't matter) so it's only maybe €1 more than leaves the table in the equivalent game in the Fitz. The Fitz hold'em game would definitely be beatable with an extra €1 rake.

    they do.

I was talking to Tony G about this and he more or less told me that the government was killing the live game in Auz. Thats one of the reasons the country went mad when Joe won the WSOP last year, there hoping to get it changed soon.

Ya at every hand played you have to put $1 to the dealer which goes to the house but nothing else is taken from the pot so everything that people actually bet goes to the winner. Its a bit annoying but i cant really complain.

Another strange thing that they do here is they allow you to remove chips from play once you leave the minimum buyin in play. I have not seen anyone do this but was just reading the house rules and its there in black and white.
"Provided you have the minimum buy-in on the table, you are permitted to remove any excess chips in between a round of play."

I played cash and tournie in Melbourne and it was an hourly charge, will look back through my boards posts and find out how much as I cant remember now, I do remember the 17% rake on the weekly $100 buy-in in the Crown casino.
BTW the cash table structure was it cost you $5 an hour to sit there + 5% rake of every 100 in the pots, a little steep I thought?

^^ that was in the $60 flat buy-in $1,$2 table
When I was in Sydney the poker section was closed for the whole time I was there

Ya some of the higher stakes tables such as the 5/10 and 10/20 etc have an hourly rate but there is no rake ontop of them.

There is one table 5/10/10, three blinds with a min buyin of 500 and the hourly rate is $40
