Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

I bought a Targa DRH-5200x DVD/HDD recorder a month or two ago from LIDL.Now I cant say enough good things about the machine. It really does what it says on the box!!!!

But I have noticed when I try to record Discovery or Discovery+1 I get a message that the programme is copy protected and it refuses to record from these channels.

Is this a new thing and if so why? I already pay for these channels so why cant I record them?

Yeah, some channels/programmes are copy-protected (Macrovision) particularly PPV movies like Sky Box Office.

I didn't realise Discovery used copy protection though. I assume you can record from other channels OK?

You will find also no Disney VHS or DVD will copy, No Box Office film will copy.

It is not new at all. I don't any more ever watch/rent SkyBox office as the Macrovision on it is severe and causes tearing of the TV picture.

I bought a Hitachi DVD recorder out of Argos onetime and the thing did my head in. When Id copy old video tapes to DVD Id get intermittant "copy protected" error messages even though they were just recordings off analouge TV (I used to live near an airport and everytime a plane flew over I got this flashing interference on the screen for a couple of seconds -The DVD recorder was mistaking this for Macrovision)

Eventually I took it back and got it changed for a LiteON HDD/DVD maching and have never had any problems since

The LiteON will even record Audio CD's

I can record from other channels fine(rte,sky1,2,3,,uktvg2,Bravo,etc).

If I am recording say Sky 1 and I switch over to Discovery I will get a message saying recording paused channel is copy protected.

I am gonna mail Discovery and see what they have to say?

I think I am screwed on this one as there is no Discovery Ireland option only Discovery UK.

I left a message so we will see what happens.

These would only be back ups of originals which I own off course. No way I'd let the kids ruin the original disc.:D

I have the same problem too, I bought targa 520 from lidl, I was able to record discovery channel, up to recently months, I cannot record anymore. I use NTL, I think it began when NTL moves the discovery channel frequency.
I got meeage 'Protected input source'.
I still can record from other channel.
