At last I can have my cake and eat it - a performance car that is cheap to insure and run!! I am moving to the UK soon and going to pick one up. They are a UK only model, has anyone seen one in this country?? They peak more power than the Ferrari 360 Modena or a BMW M3! top speed of 150mph and 0-60 in 8.7 from a diesel! 58 MPG on the motorway. Standard kit: crusie control, heated leather seats, aircon, EBD, traction control, ventilated disks, fogs, aluminium dash, sony sound system, power folding mirrors, full electrics, 18" alloys

I can pick up a 2004 with 29,000 miles on the clock, still under ford warranty for €16,500!!! If there is a better value car around I have yet to see it!!

    Opinions please!

CAB in Cork have one for sale, it has been there a while too. http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=336230

are you including the VRT in your calculations?

Other than that, and the fact most people will just see a Ford Mondeo with big wheels I reckon it is a class machine. I hope to replace my Focus TDCi with one in a few years.

he said he's moving to the UK so the VRT isn't an issue. That's a great price for a lovely looking car. Gotta have those wheels though!

Beware clutches and gearboxes hanging out of TDCI mondeos, The 130bhp has a known appetite for transmissions, This 155bhp is a develpment od the 130bhp unit.

Cracking car though. An Avensis 2.2 D-4D 180bhp would be a good opponent, also with 400NM torque although it should be significantly more expensive than the Mondeo.

Clutches are hard to keep in any powerful diesel if people don't use them right.

Saw that one in CAB allright, but think I'l wait and pay 1/2 the price ;) It must have been imported at some stage because like I said you can't buy them here. Distributors don't think there is a market. I think there might be for the simple reason that insurance & tax on the V6 3l petrol ST in this country is completely insane! Not to mention the price of petrol.

I don't care if other people think it is just a Mondeo with big wheels. Works out will in a way: if its parked beside an impreza you know which one a joyrider is going to steal! The interior concerns me more as I will be seeing more of it and the leather and aluminuim / sony sound system is pretty sweet.

I'd rather be shelling out for a new Mondeo clutch than one of the more expensive manufactures. Ford parts and never going to hit you too hard.

The Avensis is impressive allright the 180 BHP has the edge, but I've become addicted to the handling and control of the Fords, and the Mondeo I have at the moment has been a joy to own. I love the looks of the Avensis but I think the Mondeo looks a bit more sporty and 'younger' at 25 would suite me better. The Avensis isn't really more expensive but the interior isn't as nice IMO:

Those are the standard wheels on the ST by the by.

Here is another one for silly money though:

They seem to be selling the Titanium model here with the same 2.2 TDCi engine:

    http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=326997

This one is more realistically priced but still a bit dear imo:

Looks great in that blue btw.

There's a guy down in Naas that sells ex Garda cars and a friend test drove an ex garda ST220 (think thats what its called) and said it was an animal of a car , pretty reasonable figures for the performance have to say!

The ST220 is a 3.0 V6, and you're right, it is an animal
