Bought a new Dell recently and after a few days
I get booted out of Skype just when it connects to someone else. Similarly, if I use MSN Messenger, my microphone is automatically blocked.
If I go to "Sounds & Sudio devices Properties" and run "Test Hardware", I get the following message -

    Dpvsetup.exe – Application Error

    The exception Privileged instruction.
(0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x100014fe.

    Help me please!

    From Microsoft :

    follow these steps:
    1. In Control Panel, double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.
    2. On the Voice tab, under Voice Playback, click Advanced.
    3. On the Performance tab, move the Hardware Acceleration slider at least one position to the right.

    try that ...

Tried that and I also tried System restore right back to the day I recieved the computer & nothing worked. Would be very grateful for any more of your suggestions.

I'd say it might be a idea to reinstall directx 9.0c from www.microsoft.com And also update your soud drivers. This can be done from dells website. enter the 5/6 digit code thats on the sticker on your dell.

If that dosent work give dell tech support a buzz. It might be a more serious problem.
