World Cup XI so far

I'd go with this off the top of my head:

    .....................Zuberbuhler................
    Senderos....Ayala.....Cannavaro.....Lahm
    Figo........Yorke........Riquelme....Robben
    .................Klose.......Torres..............

I'm sure I'd probably change my find when a few other names get mentioned. :) Ayala's probably in there on reputation more than anything because he hasn't been as tested as a lot of defenders. Cannavaro has been a rock though and the only goal Italy conceded was an og from a very tough group.

I would swap Eboue for Senderos drop Cannavaro and stick Senderos in there and drop Robben for Appiah and Yorke for Essien.

    .....................Zuberbuhler................
    Eboue....Ayala.....Senderos.....Lahm
    Figo........Essien........Riquelme....Appiah
    .................Klose.......Torres..............

I wouldn't argue with Essien's inclusion as obviously a better player than Yorke but Yorke looked like a truely world class DMC this WC. :)

Cannavaro is a stick in imo. If you want Senderos in I'd drop Ayala who was nowhere near as tested as Cannavaro.

    Channel 4 ratings:
    Fabio Cannavaro: 7.5
Another commanding display at the back for the Juventus stopper. Cannavaro proved to be a difficult wall to get over last night. Was also dangerous in the opposition area from set-pieces.
    ---
    Fabio Cannavaro: 7
Again proved to be a giant of the side despite his pint-size frame. Grit, determination and honour, Cannavaro put in another stunner against the USA.
    ---
    Fabio Cannavaro: 8
Immense yet again. Undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the tournament so far, there was no way past the Juventino. Even threatened to score with a volley of all things.
    An 8 for C4 is like an 11/10. ;)

    I'll say:

    Isaacson (EDIT: Actually, Cech)
    Ramos---Cannavaro---Ayala---Lahm
    Robben---Essien---Riquelme---Sorin
    Torres---Klose

tbh I haven't seen too many fantastic goalkeeping displays (nor have I seen Zuberbuhler in action). Isaacson for Sweden today was probably the best I've seen, so I'll go for him despite some average performances in other games. Both Sorin and Lamb have impressed me, so to accomodate both of them I've stuck Sorin at RM and Robben at LM. Eboue hasn't been as good as he can be from what I've seen, and Sergio Ramos has been very solid, so that explains that. Otherwise, pretty standard stuff.

    EDIT: I forgot about Cech

Some odd choices in the above imo. I could probably come up with a better XI performance-wise than the below, as they are mainly big names, but I've got other things to concentrate on at the moment :)

Cech, Lahm, Cannavaro, Ayala, Ramos, Robben, Essien, Riquelme, Rodriquez, Klose, Torres.

    would swap Eboue

Don't know what tournament you've been watching if you think Eboue deserves a place.

    .....................Van Der Sar..................
    Ramos........Ayala........Cannavaro.....Lahm
    Roderiguez........Xavi.....Essien.........Figo
    .................Crespo.......Torres..............

I honaslty don't know how anyone pick anybody besides
Ayala, Cannavaro, Lahm, Figo, Torres, Crespo, Rodergiuez.

I can understand debate on Essien and Xavi, but not much, and Ramos and VDS I could see arguments, but the other 7, honaslty can't see it.

From the unfashionable teams I thought Jaidi was a colossus in all games for Tunisia. Although ousting Cannavaro or Ayala might be difficult.

I thought Riquelme played himself off the team v Mexico. He's great when things are going well - when he's under pressure where does he go? Perhaps he'll do better next game....

I'd have Lahm at right back and Sorin at left back.

    Van Der Saar

    Miguel
    Cannavaro
    Carvahlo
    A.Cole/Lahm

    Gerrard
    Ballack
    Essien
    Schweinsteiger

    Klose
    Torres

Im in 2 minds about the left back, tought Ashley Cole was very good yesterday, but Lahm has been excellant in his previous 4 games!

dunno how robben gets in these teams - himself and van Persie have been so selfish at times it really cost the dutch.

Wow, only one team with Marquez in it's defence so far?

OK i know Sorin hasn't played there in this competition but i couldn't leave out him or Lahm.

Ayala is absolutely superb, has been for years. And to think i thought he was muck when he was at AC Milan :o

In fairness he spent a number of games alongside Roque Joinor while at milan with him as your deffensive partner anyone would look ****

Probably Mexico's worst player against Portugal tbh.

A few changes to be made to my team (not many though!), but I will wait until tomorrows matches are over, before I post them.

Cannavaro and Carvahlo have been the defenders of the tournament so far by a mile.

Another 8/10 for Cannavaro from C4:
    Fabio Cannavaro: 8
Unbeatable yet again despite the considerable size difference between himself and Mark Viduka. He anticipated every ball, jumped higher than he should, a man mountain for Italy.
The only Italian to get an 8 in the whole WC and it's his 2nd. :)

Don't think Mexico had any good players agains Portugal, he was outstanding against Argentina though and put in good performances in their other matches.

Mexico played very well against Portugal and deserved at least a draw.
