Em, you don't HAVE to pay for it, they just have a nag screen.

    Try comic chat ;)

Errr, has it ever occured to you that not everything in life should be free?

    Errr yes it has.

Fail to see what that has got anything to do with what we are talking about in here though

If you use Firefox, give ChatZilla a go. It's an IRC extention.

but when plenty of free alternatives exist, there is no point in paying, i.e. Open Office, 7 Zip, GIMPshop.net, etc.

BitchX ain't available on Windows AFAIK, but XChat is. Opera also has a built-in IRC client, but the last time I checked (though this was over a year ago - Opera's changed a lot since then) you couldn't do much with it.

I don't see what's all the fuss about mIRC. I say "meh".

mIRC is too bright when it's not modded. IRSSI ftw.

I actually paid for MIRC, yes you may laugh, but it was cheap and a life time of nagless startups, on many pc's if I so want.

you get nagless chat with xchat or something else.... actually, other IRC clients seem to still have some development going on, whereas mIRC has just died on its arse.

I'd just use gaim. It does IRC, along with AIM/ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, Napster, Silc, Gadu-Gadu and groupwise. What more do you need?

You sound like an 8-year old who's trying to sound American.

I agree it has died on it's arse, but I was rich at the time, and feeling generous to donate to his hard work ;) I did this about 7 years ago.
