When you wander from the path....

First time posting here, so I'm not familiar with the regular posters, so forgive me if this question has been raised before.

When a man lives his life as well as he feels he can, does not harm others, tries only to help and relieve the suffering of others; but has doubts and seeks other paths, is he, in the eyes of God, damned?

If he chooses another faith, but one that promotes only good values and good ideals that would fit in with Christian teachings, does it matter whether the belief in the omnipotent being is there or not? If one lives a life in which no harm is ever done (within reason, only human afterall and essentially flawed), in the eyes of a Christian teaching, do you still go to hell?

Do you think that when Armageddon comes, God would punish those who lived good lives with an eternity in hell, or would there be forgiveness shown because of the type of life that was lived?

I suppose this question kind of touches on a perceived "vanity" in God, if you'll excuse the use of the word. f we live the right way anyway, is is that important that we have a central iconic figure to worship, especially considering the bloodshed that religion has caused through history?

According to a literal interpretation of the bible, you're damned if you do that. Christ is quite specific about him being the only path. Also, as is my understanding, if you're Lutheran being particularly good isn't even necessary. "Salvation through faith alone" as they put it.

Well, if you choose a new religion, why would you bother worrying about what the Bible says. Believe what you truly believe in, not what a book says unless you're still convinced that the Bible is 100% correct. What about the Qur'an? Should you worry that you're not satisfying its requests?

Sure, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and everyone else must all be damned according to the Bible. What if you were born on a island in the middle of the ocean and you never left it and never encountered Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. Would you go to hell then? Doesn't make sense really. What about mentally disabled people who doesn't have the mental functions to believe in G-d, Jesus, etc. Therefore, they don't believe in anything and they'll go to hell? Still rubbish.

Just be a good person. Yet the path of Christ is often misinterpretated. Couldn't it be walking in his footsteps. That is, following his teachings of the Sermon on the Mount, etc.?

    Walk in peace ;)
