    Hi all,

I have an interview coming up for a beauticians course in Fás. Has anyone any idea what type of questions they ask.

    Thanks.

    Shalom

What questions - why does someone like you want to do this ?

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

    Intrigued!

G/F wanted to do this and was told you could only nominate 2 courses and waiting list for this was 2 years (who would want to wait that long ffs?). Also no interview process was mentioned so curious how fas works...

Needless to say she didn't pick it.

Well observing fas and not having anything to do with them directly I would say they that once you are enthusiastic and believe you will be top of the class - hope to open up your own salon in 5 years etc.

It would help if this is your plan and really believe this; but just convincing them is all that is needed if you want to do the course.

In a nutshell think the question to look out for is "What do you hope to achieve by doing this couse?"

Some courses have interviews some don't. I assume to see if people are genuinely interested and have an aptitude for the course. Theres big waiting lists for some courses depending on the location. If you are prepared to travel to a different center you might get a place faster.

i was looking to a course in childcare before and was told there was no hope as anyone on benefits is automatically accepted into the course they pick so there are always huge lists of people waiting...

How can you be automatically accepted if theres no places? Thats just not logical. I think what happens is theres a queue based on when you apply, but its weighted in someway to favour people with special needs or some other criteria. Which means you'll get a place slower if you not in one of those groups. But you'll get a place eventually. I still get letters from FAS about jobs, even though I went into see them 3yrs ago about doing a course, and was turned away saying I was over qualified.

I did a 1.5 year business administration traineeship with them a couple of years back. I applied for a 6 week course initially & then got a call asking if I was interested in the traineeship. I did the interview & got it.

Can't really remember the interview, but I think it was basically to see that you were genuinely interested in the subject and weren't going to drop out etc. No trick questions or anything to catch you out, just a chat really!

When I started the course, I found out a good few people had been waiting a year or two for it. I applied & started within a few weeks!
