Anyone read his review of Aquamarine in the Ticket today? Comedy gold. It's seldom I'd read reviews of films I have zero intention of seeing, with the exception of reading everything Donald Clarke writes. I almost prefer seeing a single star above the review, knowing that you're going to see the boot stuck in in a creative manner. :)

Wish I had an ireland.com account so I could cut and paste it for the amusement of those who don't buy the Irish Times.

Haven't seen today's Ticket yet but agree wholeheartedly, Clarke's reviews are a large part of why I buy the Times on a Friday. His review of the Da Vinci Code was one of the best reviews I've ever seen.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm always raving about Clarke's review and adored his Da Vinci code review, which I posted in part here (going on about the ivory tower). His reviews are the best thing about a bad movie - does anyone else recall his review of "De-Lovely" which he did entirely in verse?

As it stands, I nearly always agree with him too - his Top 10 of the year match very closely with my own for the last several years and he's by no means a critical snob either, lauding a movie based on how much he enjoyed it as well as other factors.

BTW you can access the Ticket, and hence Clarke's excellent reviews, for free at http://www.ireland.com/theticket.

Any chance Donald Clarke's reviews could be found online these days? I know he has a blog on the times website but are his archived reviews available?

    Whoa, quite a bump.

All his reviews should be on the Irish Times website, which is a total mess and doesn't have dedicated pages for its writers except for their blogs. You'd also have to subscribe to read anything older than a year, I think. It's a sh**ty website.
