I ran a firm ware update on an LG dvd drive which seems to have stopped my second dvd drive from working.
I am running widows xp and getting a message saying "Code 22 device diabled"
When I try to enable it comes back saying windows could not enable device, I read on the net that I might need to delete an IDE channel in device manager to fix the problem, but I think I've done enough damage as it is, so could some one tell me what to do step by step.

    Thanks spree

Hopefully you didnt ruin the drive all together.:( Try uninstalling the DVD drive from device manager and restart the computer.

Deleting the IDE channel in Windows won't cause any damage - once you restart Windows it should find it again. You may be better off deleting the whole IDE controller in Device Manager, along with both the drives and channels.

Ok I read that as upgrading the firmware on one drive screwed the other one. And I think I'm right :p

I have an LG drive and when I flashed it to make it region free something happened to the other dvd drive in my system. It now shows up as a CD drive instead of a DVD. It reads CDs fine but has trouble with DVDs. Been like that for ages tbh - never been arsed fixing it as I had the LG one working ok.
