What form of contaception do you use?

Just wanted to see what type of contaception you guys use. I'm currently using the diaphragm with condoms. Everyone I know seems to be on the pill though and sometimes I have doubts as to whether I'm being stupid not going on the pill because I've heard it's more effective than barrier methods of contraception.

It has been niggling at the back of my mind for a while now that perhaps I mightn't be using the most effective or most popular form of contraception!

I think you need to find something that suits you and your needs. A poll isn't how you should do it.

Can I suggest you talk to your own GP or one of the family planning clinics? I'm sure there is also copious amounts of literature out there.

You might get better responses from either your doctor or the S & S forum.

Its better suited to a poll too tbh.

The pill isn't something to go on lightly, there are side effects, and long term problems like an increase risk of breast cancer.

If you are using condoms, be prepared to go to your GP or planned parenthood clinic (think that is what they are called) for the morning after pill if you have an accident with your condoms.

I'd stress the morning after pill is not birth control on its own, it is for emergencies only (it is offically know as emergency contraception), and can loose effectiveness the more times you use it. It can be used up to 3 days after unprotected sex but is most effective within the first 12-24 hours.

If you do want to go on the pill, talk to your GP about it and get some information so you can make an informed choice.

I use the withdrawal method. 100% effective in my experience.

Good luck with that mate. Keep an eye on the buy and sell ads for used prams while you're at it! :)

I wasn't aware that social pressure to be popular now extended as far as what kind of contraception you use.

Popular has nothing to do with it.
It is to do with the right contraceptive for your needs and for your body.
Hormoane bases contraceptives are not suitible for every women.

    http://www.ifpa.ie/contraception/index.html
There is a good guide to all forms of contraception, how they work, the side effects, the risks and how well they work.

Have a good read and then go talk to your dr about it.

Just in case the sarcasm didn't come across, can we point out that this is definitely not the safest means of contraception.

IMO, like others here, you need to talk to a GP or maybe make a visit to the well woman centre.

    Some info here www.wellwomancentre.ie

Why was he banned? Some people do use this method although its not the safest! Long term couples often go this way.

well because it's misleading, also naive/stupid to say it is 100% effective.
I'll tell you what was 100% deserved though.. the ban!

The personal issues forum is one of the strictest of all the forum that make up the collective that is boards.ie.
I would suggest that new comers take the time to read the Charter for this forum and the sites FAQ.

Right now the lot of ye talking about the ban and the reasons for it are Off topic and that can get you banned from this forum.
    Have a nice day

Well OP, give your GP a visit. Any hormonal contraception could have possible negative or positive side effects, or maybe hardly no side effects at all. Guess you won't know until you talk to your GP and try it.

Condoms are always important of course to help prevent STIs. A rather crude but true quote from film Van Wilder is "Don't be a fool, wrap your tool" :)

Aside: There has been an alarming amount of very uneducated responses to threads in this forum over the last few days regarding contraception, safe sex, STIs. Makes you wonder about the state of the countrys sex education.

I think people maybe feel embarassed about speaking openly about sex, leading to some (males in particular) getting all macho to cover their embarassment, claiming that STIs are not a big deal and the withdrawl method is effective.

Contraception is not a big deal to disuss and educate yourself on. but could become a very big deal if one ignores it and something undesirable happens.

He didnt say it was 100% effective, he said it was in his experience 100% effective. It is in my experience too thank goodness! I'd never recommend it to anyone outside of a very long term committed relationship that is open to having children though. And I'd never rely on it all of the time either.

I think that was a very harsh decision mod!

Any further offtopic disscusion ( including that of the banning ) will get result in bans being handed out.
This forum is not the place for it.
IF you want to talk about it take it to feedback people.

A teacher once said there was a word for people who use the withdrawal method: Parents.

I use IUD. Is not for everyone, but for me its much better than the pill.

No, there is still a risk if it is unprotected anal sex.
First off from HIV and STI and
secondly there can be seepage as the rectum closes and the ejaculate is pushed out
and if the female's gentails and surrounding area are moist enough the sperm can easily swim
all the way from there up into the vagina and then enter the cervix and go find an ova to fuse with.

or in plainer terms you can still get pregnant or get some one pregrant from
unprotected anal sex with a female and expose yourself to a lot of health risks.

The singular of ova is ovum!

Also, in relation to a previous post of yours, the name of this particular form of contraception is Depo Provera, not Deep Provera!

And you're giving out about chump giving false information!

It maybe possible for there to be more then one ovum present that is how non fraternal twins are concieved.
Oh and while my dyslexia may have made that error about the name of that form of contraception the link contains the right name
    and all the information needed.
