Need Help- Undenominated Engineering

I'd appreciate your help. I've just finished my Leaving Cert. I want to do Civil Engineering in NUIG but some of my better subjects didnt go as planned so I'm not optimistic about getting the points. I can do this course somewhere else but I am really keen on going to Galway. The points last year for Civil Eng were 490 but I expect them to go down slightly this year. I must now complete my Change of mind form and was wondering whether or not to include Undenominated Engineering as my second choice??? Its generally lower points than civil but I haven't much interest in the other types of engineering?

    1) Can I do Undenominated and the transfer course once I start?
    2) Is there any point in doing it if I only want to do Civil Eng?

I'd appreciate your help. I only have until july 1st to change my mind.
    Thanks.

    1) You may end up with an extra lecture or 4 in 1st year. It won't be noticable, you're going to be hammered with hours regardless. You will learn to hate/envy arts students and, more specifically, their comparatively lax timetables. Do not forget the amount of reading and essays they must do. You In 2nd year, when you've chosen your course, you may have to do a bit of catching up. If you're any way studious at all, you'll be fine.

    2) It'll give you a broader sense of engineering as a whole and widen your horizons. Definately put it down as your 2nd.

So what did you do in the end? I did that undenominated course and lost all interest in engineering soon after!

I changed CAO two days before closing date and put civ eng no 1 and undenom no 2. Then i talked to a guidance councellor and the idea of studyin chemical and biomed eng put me off and the chances of not gewtting in to civ eng for 2nd year. So i changed it again and took out undenominated eng.

    CAO looks like this now

    Degrees:

    1 civ eng nuig
2 civ eng ucd (usually higher than nuig)
    3 civ eng sligo

    Dip:

    1 civ eng nuig

So basically it looks like i'll have to choose between sligo and gmit coz realistically i wont get nuig.
