Cancelling a holiday, losing deposit

I have to cancel a holiday, because something else has come up that I have to do, and I can't go on the holiday at another time either.

I'm looking at losing almost €700 that I paid in non-refundable booking deposits (nice work Rooster  ) . Anyone ever been or hear of someone being successful in getting back unrefundable deposits? All ideas gratefully accepted!

Check your T&C's, and your travel insurance (if you took it) to see if theres anything to help you. I know cancelling thru sickness etc can get you refunded thru your insurance. Other than that pleading with them on the grounds of making a goodwill gesture might help, depending on the company, and how important customer satisfaction is to them.

Thanks for the comments Katie. I dont think insurance will work as we've no good reason - but I must check the policy.

It is in the T&C that we lose the deposit, but I suppose I was hoping that that might not be enforceable.

I think my best hope might be to try and persuade them to give me credit against a holiday for next year - as it would be good customer relations on their part.

When's the holiday? Usually comes down to how much notice of cancellation you're giving them. You might get a portiion of it back. Like someone else said, it'll be in yout T&C.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I suppose if all else fails a good reason could just -ahem- happen.;)

Sell it on to someone else or ask the travel agent to do it for you.
