    Hi all,

I'm thinking of going to Syria/Lebabon/Jordan for a few weeks this summer, and I was wondering if anyone who has every been could help me out with the following questions?

    1. Do I need a visa?
    2. What vaccines do I require?
    3. Will a Syrian stamp on my passport complicate matters if I try and enter the US at a future date?
    4. What would you recommend to see and do?

I looked at going last year (but the plan fell through) due to the super cheap 5 * hotels in damascus and the amount of places to go and see. By all accounts its incredible value and very under-tourist infested. You do need a visa - check the syrian embassy site for the uk - there is a pdf downloadable from there.
The stamp could be an issue for any stupid american airport renta-cops but I dont think theres an official US policy on it. Dont forget if you have an israeli stamp on your passport they will not let you into syria.

I was in all 3 a few months ago. You need visas for all 3. The Jordanian one cost 10 dinars at the airport, I think it's the same at land borders (there's a 5 dinar exit tax too no matter what way you leave so keep that handy!).
I got a multiple entry visa for Syria in advance from the UK embassy but you should be able to get one (single entry) at the border no problem, unless something has changed.
Lebanon depends on the length of stay, you can get a 48 hour transit visa for free, a 2 week visa costs 25,000 Lebanese pounds and a one month costs 50,000 if I remember correctly.
As for what to do, get some guidebooks and read through them - there's so much to see in all countries it's impossible to list off. Don't miss Petra, Jerash, Damascus (the whole city is amazing!), Baalbek, Qunietra in the Golan Heights is worth seeing too.
I don't know about going to the US and I don't know about specific vaccinations. I'm travelling in SE Asia now, was in the Middle East before I came here so I got all mine at once for the various places.
