It depends on loads of things, position, blinds, stack size, stage of tournament or cash game.

play them cheaply and hope to hit trips,

But as Dub13 says there's loads of variables to take account of before any decision...

If first in (everyone folds to you), then raise. Whatever the flop brings bet as if you have top pair top kicker. If you meet any resistance type 'lol u bluff!' in the chat and push all-in.

To the original poster, the above is (i hope) tongue-in-cheek, and not to be taken seriously.

with low pocket pairs ill try and get in cheap and if i dont hit ill fold to a large size bet. If its checked to me ill make a decent size bet and hope people fold or ill fold to a re-raise.

try and get a cheap flop, and if you hit prepair to take down a nice pot....if you don't hit throw them away , don't put any extra money in....

    step 1)get down to 4 handed.(first prise 1400 Euro)
step 2)make sure your chip lead.
step 3)make sure second in chips limps before you from UTG.
    step 4) get dealt 22.
step 5)pay no attention to the limper (they always suck anyway) and raise as if your holding AA and put 40% of your stack in.
step 6)get reraised by UTG limper.
step 7)talk your self in to how you should call this reraise now as your getting the odds and he could easily have AK or what ever else.
    step 8)call.
step 9)dont be scared of UTG's KK as you only need another 2 to win this.
step 10)pay no attention to the K on the flop as you can still win this.
step 11) say nice hand and get up and go home in 4th place.

In general, although its quite case specific, but in general, as follows:

early on in tournies, limp them in and try and hit trips, otherwise bin them.
Late on in tourneys, raise with them in late position, throw them away in early position.
In cash games, again try to hit trips, and call a raise with them if u and your opponent are deep stacked and the raise is less than 1/7th of the stacks.

raise is less than 1/7th of the stacks.

You need the raise to be less than 5% of stacks. 1/7th is WAY too high

fuzz is correct, when i put 1/7th i actually meant 7%, bit early for me i guess.
1/7th would be way to high.
