Royal Ascot - Day Four

I'm starting this a day early to mention Race For The Stars who runs in the Coronation Stakes on Friday.

After running ok in both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas on desperate ground, she'll be set for a much better run here on what will hopefully remain as good-to-firm ground. With no rain, I'd strongly fancy her to turn around the form with the likes of Speciosa and Nightime.

13/2 is the best price at the moment but I'd expect it to be slightly bigger tomorrow evening / Friday morning, on the exchanges at least.

I was wrong about the price getting bigger on Race For The Stars. 6/1 seems to be the best now and she's only 6.6 on betfair. Possibly a Pricewise tip? If so, I'm glad I got some 8.2 yesterday.

You could well be right Crumbs, the one I've layed already is Speciosa, surely she can't win going right handed.

    2.35 Bahama Mama 6th
    3.10 Papal Bull won @ 5/4
    3.50 Wake up Maggie nowhere
4.25 Boule D'Or 6th, seemed to get into it coming very wide and ran on well
    4.55 Road to Mandalay nowhere
    5.30 Pearly King nowhere

Not too confident today and no time for write ups as I'm up the walls.

Looks like you were right with the pricewise comment Crumbs ......

Nantyglo runs in the Coronation Stakes (3:50). I tipped it here in May when it won a Listed race againts older mares. This is a huge step up for the horse, and I suspect the owners are just running her hoping for an outside chance of a place.

I don't really expect her to feature in the race - but at 66/1 (340 on betfair !!) I 'm going to stick a small few quid e/w for loyalties sake!

(It was 44.0 to place earlier on on Betfair - which I missed)

Some tricky looking races today, my selections are:

    3:10 Red Rocks

I'm going to take a chance on Red Rocks turning over Papal Bull as Papal Bulls run in the Derby has raised some questions for me about how good he really is, it could have been just an off day. Red Rocks has improved dramatically in his last few races and the step up in trip should suit.

    3:50 Silcas Sister:

At around 10/1 Silcas Sister is an excellent each way bet. She ran a cracking race in the 1000 Guineas to finish 4th on ground she didn't seem to enjoy and more importantly when Godolphin where under a cloud. She's had a nice break to freshen her up and I can see her going really close today.

    5:30 Linas Selection NAP

I really like the look of Linas Selection here, with the Johnson stable flying at the moment and the horse proven over distance and going it looks like the bet of the day. Looks to be a very nicely handicapped horse too and appears well drawn so I'll be shocked if it's not at least placed today.

No time to write a lot of analysis here but I am hopeful of some big priced winners today:

2:35 Riverside Dancer Ran well from a tough draw...just faded final furlong, watch next time out

    3:10 Red Rocks

    3:50 Nightime/Silca's Sister

    4:25 Boule D'or

    4:55 Road to Mandalay

    5:30 Lake Poet

2:35 - Medley - A fair 2nd on her debut, I expect she'll come on a lot for that and has decent e/w claims at around 14/1.
(Well backed into 8/1 but then jockey Richard Hughes decides to take her on the scenic route. Drawn low, she ends coming around the field down the middle of the track  and finishes strongly for 4th. Certainly wouldn't have won but could have been closer.)

3:10 - Papal Bull - Would likely have been in the first 5 in the Derby with a clear run and with Fallon back on board today, there should be no excuses. A worthy 6/4 favourite.
(Did the business. Had more in the tank at the end. Looks more like a St. Leger horse than an Arc horse.)

3:50 - Race For The Stars
(Slow start, at the back with 3f to go and ran wide the whole way. Was picking up in the straight but was never going to get to Nannina. Once her chance was gone, Fallon wasn't interested in getting placed and she finished 4th. He did the same later on Road To Manderley.)

4:25 - Kings Quay - 24/1 on Betfair. Hit the front too soon last time so will hopefully be held up longer for a late challenge. Bottom weight and low draw are positives.
    (Terrible.)

Have mostly stayed away from Ascot this year (apart from Crumbs system obviously) , but I've had a look today and I going to have a punt.

    My selections:
    2.35 Bicostal:
Will like the fast ground. Won earlier this year in Newmarket over similar ground with a number of todays runners in the field.

    3.10 Papal Bull NAP
A class act imo, with Fallon on board they should be the right combination. I felt that he was unlucky in his derby run.

    3.50 Wake Up Maggie
Nightime and Price Tag are the fancied horses in thie race. I fancy Wake up Maggie for a place. It was second to Jeremy, who won earlier this week, on soft ground over 7f last time out.

    4.25 Public Forum
Beat Hail to the Chief well over a mile last time out with Richard Hughes giving him a great ride. The bookies don't lie and Wild Savannah and Star of Light will probably start off as deserved J2f.

    4.55 Road to Mandalay
    Place @2.55 on BF.

    5.30 Prince Charlemagne
    Place @ 6 on BF.

Good luck to one and all.

2:35 Bahama Mama (recent win over trip and on good to firm + Fallon)
    3:10 Papal Bull
    3:50 Silca's Sister e/w (small e/w on Nantyglo)
4:25 Blue Monday e/w (Gr.3 winner in France last week)
4:55 Ogee (not sure - just going with Stoute)
5:30 The Last Drop e/w (getting preferred ground)

Nice win for Frankie. She was crusing when everyone else was pushing hard. I see the first three favs have won today, at Ascot, Ayr and Recar.

Fallon did enough to get a win out of it. A great finish by the top two, and that's two favourites who have won. The bookies were saying they were ahead of the punters by the end of yesterday. Lets hope that changes by the end of today.

Next race is fairly open, market wise.
