Speeding Ticket Frenzy

I got the following in an e-mail today. Don't know if it is true or not, but here goes anyway......

*I was doing a broadband wireless install last week for a Garda from the
Traffic Corps. While I was there, he told me that starting Saturday 1st July, they will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state
estimates that over e250,000 will be generated in speeding tickets. 100,000
will go to pay Garda over time. There will 50 Gardai on duty at all times
    patrolling on the following:

    M7/N7 from Naas to Portlaoise
    N4 to Mullingar from Dublin
    N6 to Athlone
    N81 to Baltinglass
    N11 to Wexford
    M50
    Dublin - Drogheda

Their will be additional Gardai assigned to 'flying squads' - mobile Units
to patrol all other routes in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Laois,
Westmeath, Offaly, Louth and Kilkenny *

I'm warning everyone now that 5 kmph above the limit can justify a Ticket
and every Garda is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 20
minutes. They have issued brand new unmarked cars. If you must take one of
these main routes, or surrounding roads beware. It's up to you how fast you
    go. *

I was told Today FM confirmed all of this(off the record). So be safe And
don't forget speeding tickets are on you. You've been warned. *

this smells of dog poo! this is about the 10th time i seen this doing the rounds today but i suppose if people start slowing down and paying attention it mite do the trick. why would the guards tip this fella installing the internet about a nationwide campaign? sounds like an IT guy having a laugh seeing how much chat it can drum up? anyhow if it works in slowing people down as well then it can be a bad thing i suppose

yeah I smell a rat myself due to the detail of the info (roads, routes etc.) but as you say if it makes people think then maybe not such a bad romour.

I personally don't think people will slow down until they physically see a big police presence

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

:p:p I just got it on an e-mail of this and passed it on.

I saw something unusual today. I was in the car today driving up the quays and along the chapelizod bypass. I saw 2 different motorcycle gardai and both were following right behind motorcyclists. One of the motorcyclists and the guard then turned off the quays, but the others went my way on the chapelizod bypass. Anytime the motorcyclist changed lanes the garda followed and when stopped at lights the motorcyclists didn't filter to the front and the garda just sat in behind him.

I thought this was a bit strange as I've never had a garda track me like that particularly for such a long distance.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

That sounds like a really great contribution to road safety.
