When you sync ipod to your computer , mp3s are loaded based on whats in your library .
itunes seams to use a music folder , whose location can be changed, for physically storing media files on pc.

What actually is the library , i know it is an xml file , but don't know much about xml ,is it just a list of pointers to all music on your pc that you want to sync to your ipod .

XML is basically a markup language, or a set or rules for creating documents. The author of each different document type can decide what specifics to apply to these rules, so documents could be anything. The application just has to be able to understand the XML file.

The library is one example of an XML file that iTunes has been programmed to understand. What it would contain is information about the songs in it, not only where they are, but also things like the play count, and the star rating you gave the song.
