hi ill give you the story but im not 100% sure on some of the details as it didnt occur while i was using the computer.

the compuuter has norton antivirus and AVG was installed on it yesterday. The computer also has AD-Aware and spybot search and destroy was installed yesterday as well. Spyware doctor was also installed yesterday and i dont know if having different anti virus and spyware software affects the computer somehow but the computer is running fairly slow ever since that happened.

anyway i uninstalled AVG, spybot, spyware doctor to see if that did anything but it didnt.

spyware doctor had done a scan before i unistalled it and it found 110 affected files but Norton doesnt find these and either did AVG. spybot did remove 4 files.

the computer is getting pop-ups every now and then with the usual porn and find a sex partner near you ads.

there is a question mark in the system tray that wehn clicked a small window pos up saying your computer is infected .

there was a windows pop up saying that the system detected virus activities

also there a number of pop ups for virus scans including PestTrap WinAntiVirus AntiVirusGold and VirusBlast

I can give you a list of the processes being run on the machine if that helps.

    cheers for any help

    1) Don't use two AVs on the same machine, it can cause conflicts.
    2) Sounds like you have adware, not a virus.
    3) Norton\AVG look for very different things than AdAware\SpyBot\Spyware Doctor. I wouldn't worry about them not all finding the same things.
    4) How old is your computer? Running 3 (maybe 4) real time scanners is bound to cause a performance hit, how much depends on what your machine is and what its running at the time.

ya it is adware and i uninstalled all the surplus AV software.

there is a System alert:popups coming up saying there is OHPE Ver 4.12.13 on the system and its opening up http://malwarewipe.com/?rid=237 when clicked on.

any idea on how to get rid of it?

    Try Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/

It runs a number of different antispyware products.

I had this one recently, and it's a nasty bugger to get rid of.

You may need to do some registry edits too, work these out for yourself, I had to, it seems to have a smart (polymorphic) trojan downloader in the background which can subvert firewalls and AV, it disabled my firewall in any case, needing a reinstall.
I threw everything I could at it for about two days until it was finally gone.
There was some stuff listed in AV and Antispyware logs that had to be hand deleted.

    Good luck.

If you're not tech savvy you could have a real nightmare with this.
