Has anyone compared Schmidt & Bender to Swarovski,Zeiss and Leupold regarding the S&B's light gathering abilities. Are S&B the best for light gathering.

I have a Leupold VXII 3-10x50 which I use for stalking and find it not marvellous in low light. So was considering S&B or Swarovski.

    OK!!

But you spend 1,000euros on a scope, you buy it once and use it for 20years, 50euro a year.

Buy cheap and you buy twice!

    S & B all the way, without a doubt.;)

    Fathersymes,
I do own and use two S & B and 3 Zeiss scopes all of different configurations. I have yet to have any problems of any kind with any of the scopes. The are "extremely" clear and bright. They are built like a tank (especially the S&B's) and withstand a lot of hard use.
They really - really - come into their own in extremely low light conditions - the early morning and when the light goes dim. To be honest - I have never had both on a head to head comparison - but I really cannot tell the difference between Leica, Zeiss or S&B in light gathering ability. A lab test could probably tell but in real field conditions it is beyond me.

From my point of view it would come down to a trusted dealer and the scope that best fits the rifle and the use requirements.
