    Hi everybody,

Searching the web I found this page/forum, and maybe you can help me with my next travel to Ireland.

It´s going to be my 6th time there, so I know well all the isle, from the north to the south. There are two places where I've not been yet, Ring of Kerry and Connemara.

But, can you recomend me something less touristic, something interesting to visit, see, enjoy...

The thing is that I'm going alone, because mi mate she had to cancel her flight ticket (no holydays for her at work). So I'm renting a car and want to visit these places, but I will also be in Dublin for 2 or 3 days, and I don't want to be one more tourist in Temple Bar!

Please, recomend me places to visit, and places to go when the night begins...

    Thanks everybody.

Also, if someone is free the fisrt and the second week of july and want to go around ireland, I have 3 places in my rented car for free!!! The only thing it's that you will have to be my compass/GPS

    Hi there,
I heartily recommend that you visit Newgrange if you can. It is very touristy place, but its a fascinating place to visit. The whole vistitor centre is really well run. See more here

Hope you have a good trip.

Something which I havent done but would love to do is visit the Skellig Islands/Rocks off the coast of Kerry.
These are tiny little pointy Islands where monks used to live long ago. There are stone huts still there and it's supposed to be amazing.

    Edit: Yay! 100th post!

Thank you very much for your help!

That was exactly what I was looking for, because these are the places that nobody tell you when you ask where to go

    Thanks again!
    Bruno.

Yes if you're in Kerry I strongly advise you to visit these islands. (they're on the ring of Kerry)

A boat takes you on about a half hour journey out to thses remote islands which are full of gannets, puffins and other birds and have these large stairways leading up to these stone huts where monks used to live.
There are also large cliffs and great scenery.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Here's a pic taken on one of them: http://gofree.indigo.ie/~2000ad/skelligs/skelligs1.gif

Hey . I have been to the Skelligs about 6 times . . . its class. 576 steps to the top ( yes i was counting ) but it is amazing when yo get up to the top. Well worth it though. The boats leave from Portmagee at about 10 and you will be back about 4/5 . and all you have to do is walk across the road for a well earned pint . . or two :)

hey there, welcome back to ireland (not in the 'you're a tourist, lets rob you of all your money sense :D )

if you're going to the southwest anyways, i think a really cool spot is Shirkin Island (pub lockins, nice beaches, friendly people & not very touristic at all - It's in the very west of cork and you need to get a ferry there from baltimore but it is a great place to spend a couple of days...

Glendalough is lovely if the weather is right.

You might be hard pushed to get someone to go with a stranger on a road trip around ireland though!!

Bah I think tourists know that we have pubs.

Just got back from a trip to Achill island in Mayo (which isn't really an island as you just drive over a bridge to get to it) and I went surfing there in a place called Keel Bay. You can rent a board there and even get lessons. The scenery is pretty spectacular

Yeah actually, Mayo is an underrated county I think. Westport is a nice town. You can climb Croke Patrick. And the scenery in the North of the county including Achill Island is very nice.
And of course half of conemara is in Mayo.

Some of Waterford is underrated aswell. Ardmore and Liosmore are very nice.

If you're going to Kerry you could always travel on down acroos the Beara Peninsula (spectacular mountain views) to Glengarriff & take a boat out to Garnish Island. http://www.cork-guide.ie/garnish.htm

Mizen Head is also worth a visit for the scenery. http://www.cork-guide.ie/mizen.htm

Chill out & get a bit of religion in peaceful Guágan Barra. http://www.cork-guide.ie/gouganebarra/gouganebarra.html

Go n'eiri on bothar leat (May the road rise to meet you)...
