Sky HD upscaling ability?

Does the Sky HD box upscale non-HD pictures? And is a sky HD subscription necessary to achieve such upscaling or will the box perform that function without the HD sub?

Or is there some cheaper alternative to upscale a standard definition sky picture?

    Thanks guys

Short answer is no , the box does not upscale anything , and a subscription is needed to receive any HD , even the BBC HD.

Why do you want to upscale? Only a CRT PC monitor needs upscalling. DVD players that upscale are also fairly pointless.

If the natively High Resolution "HD Ready" TV does not upscale standard TV properly take it back as it must be rubbish. All "HD ready" natively High resolution screens (non-CRT) must upscale Standard TV anyway.

With HD CRT if it does native interlace and SD resolution upscaling is of dubious value unless it is a 60" CRT (rare except on projection)
