Dunphy quits Newstalk

Eamon Dunphy is to leave his job at Newstalk 106 just before it goes national. He's put it down to a 'lifestyle choice' as he wants to concentrate on his work as a football pundit.

A lot of people will be disappointed as he had many fans outside of Dublin who would've been looking forward to his return to the national airwaves.

    Really lifestyle choice, or money?

i thought he said he was enjoying the gig. i'd say the lifestyle choice is that he can't go out drinking anymore, because he has to be up early

no disrespect to the man, but i'm sure he's at an age where he doesn't want to be getting up at 5am every day.

The thing is that he's been little more than a guest presenter on his own programme since January or February anyway (or so it seems).

Could add to the lifestyle argument.

maybe he doesn't want to go up against RTÉ again

It looks like he got a very nice contract from RTE to cover the Champions league Football for the next few years. Who can blame him for not wanting to get up at 4 every morning if he can make the same sort of money for a few hours evening work a week.

he was barely ever on the show and he was only reason i usually tuned in.
he should try get an afternoon/evening or even a weekend show as his progamme is good with good guests.

I would like to see David McWilliams back.

It is odd Dunphy leaving at a time when the station is going national.

he said this morning on his first morning back since announcing his departure:

one of the issues for his departure was that he has taken the side of the listeners in the 30cent a text introduction by the station. and because of his siding with the listeners, him and his team have been alienated by senior management.

    "he and his team":D

I don't like Dunphy, but I will have to say I side with him on the text charge issue..... I think it will rate up with the John Bruton tax on children's shoes debacle
