As in Floor and wall tile???
Just give it a try yourself! It's a blast!
I search for old tables and coffee tables to refinish and resell. If the tops are too bad off, I will do mosaic tile patterns on them and they turn out fantastic!
    Give it a try! It's a blast!

    Hi
I'm not sure if there is a tiling course in Cork, but you should ask around about night courses, they usually have diy classes in tiling, although these are very basic and will not cover a lot of stuff that you need to know. There is a course in Offaly by Profile Tiling, my girlfriends father did it last year and said it was very good, but it is seriously expensive. €4345!!! it's one day a week for 14 weeks, it covers everything you need to know to start your own tiling business, so it would only be worth it if you planned on doing it for a living.

the other option that you have is to travel to England to do it, I just got back from a tiling course over in Kent two weeks ago and it was very good, and four time cheaper than the course in Offaly, and that included my accomadation, flights and food etc etc. if you have family over in london you could stay with them, but the training company have great accomadation for only £20 a night, book well in advance or you won't get a room in the house they have. the 5 day intensive course in £349 and the 5 day advanced course is £375.

Hope this helps and best of luck finding a course

I agree with Lust4life. Tiling is a piece of piss. Why don't you get in touch with a tiler and give him a hand for a few days. Or just as good, just start tiling a friends floor. Will be great practice for your own!

Its easy until you run into a problem! tiling may seem pretty basic but theres a lot to it, for instance wood preparation, adhesive and grout selection, even the trowel that you use for each job is important. If your going to spend money doing up your house you are better off doing a good job that will last. I'm currently retiling a bathroom that was done by a customer who did the tiling themselves and all the tiles in the bathroom fell off because they didn't know how to do it properly. Wood needs to be treated before you can tile over it, walls need to be leveled and if this is not possible you need to know how to apply the tiles to uneven surfaces, you cant use normal grout and adhesive on wooden floors, you need epoxy grouts and adhesives for this, you also need an underlayment if the floor you tiling has a lot of movement. theres a lot to it, and you are bound to run into problems so my advice is to do a course, especially if your planning on doing work for other people, the better your job the more work you'll get.
