I'm not going to bash PP but I think the odds are crazy. 40/1 on Ivey to beat approx 10,000 players.

Maybe a euro or two for the fun of it but thats all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭karlh

those prices are to make the final 9 and money back if they make the final 60.

nationality bets and lots more on the way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 584 ✭✭✭aidankk

i like Allen Cunningham 100/1 ,barry Greestien at 125/1 , marcel luske 125/1 , john hennigan 125/1 , hoyt corkins 125/1 might put a few euro on half a dozen just to keep the interest going....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

They look like very poor bets, but they always are, with every bookies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,443 ✭✭✭califano

What about a price on none of the top 14 shortest priced(outright) players to make the final table. I'll snap your hand off 1/1?.

You'll get better odds on virtual horse racing.

Any interest in a syndicate to back boardsies players. Say getting odds on final 60 containing a boards player? Would you give us a price on that Karl?

Or Irish player for that matter?

    *never forgetting onepercentpledge of course....

I'd love to see a price for a Pokerstars qualifer to win it

I would need a full list of boardsies playing and it would mean a lot of work for our risk dept. Open to the idea if someone wants to compile a list.

On the way shortly along with other nationality prices.

    about 8000/1 :)

last year AntesUp won a prop bet with the pokerstars bloggers that about 40 Irish players they were following would get further than 1100 pokerstars qualifiers.

    Andy Black. :)

Taking that money from Howard (from Pokerstars) was one of the best things about last years WSOP. Final table had 2 PS players and one irish (we'd been tracking it from when everyone made the money afaicr). 50 bucks each Mike and I had and when we won we spent it on beer and drank it in front of him (we did buy him one too!). He hasn't forgiven or forgotten it as we remind him at each EPT event.

Its on again this year of course! :)

As usual if anyone really wants to bet on this event you can contact me for guaranteed better prices than PP.

Joe Bartholdi is 80 - 1, and the grinder is 100 - 1, come on.
I know Joe won the WPT championship but he hasn't done much else.

    Lol and Moneymaker is 125 - 1.

one of them will come good for me!! 4 euro's well spent! :D

I'll check this out and get back to you. My guess is that it will go on what country you registered for the tourney from. It seems to be only usable field which everyone has to fill out.

I'd would not imagine it going to passport holders as PP could never get an accurate figure for each country and the list that Harrahs issue would be taken as official for the puposes of paying out.

So you want odds on Sweden too huh?...... :)

F**k betting on them buy a hot steaming slice of their action and get 8,000/1! Plus you can make money if they finish itm not just the FT. C'mon people you know it makes sense.

Is there a poker pro percentage dealing website or summat then?

Well Bohsman is selling each 1% of his WSOP entry plus some side event action and overheads (total cost ~$15,000) at face value of $150 or ~€120.

I know a few people are on board at that price (including myself) and I'm sure the other boardsters in the comp would be amenable to selling a slice of their action by pm if one was interested in doing so. If you want to have a financial interest in the the WSOP without paying a large premium to a bookie its the only way to go.

Anyway you probably know all this already Dom but I'm sure you are asking the question on behalf of others who are silent. ;)

Edit: It's in Oscars sig for f**k sake!! ;)

You were seemingly purporting to know how to buy percentages of Antonious et al in your reply, and I was wondering that such a thing might exist for top professionals.

I was already aware of the brazilian footballers (Fred) fundraising efforts and meant to speak to him on Sunday about investment opportunities but I don't remember crossing paths with him.

Just out of curiosity... who sets these prices at PPP? Not lookingt for a name just their poker pedigree or is
it a freelance from Vegas etc

If i was/am a fish i'd like to be a carp. Carp are very hard to catch as they dont easily take the bait. One of the hardest lake fish to catch. I know this from that programme those two english bearded gentlemen used have.

we have a great guy in our risk dept who has a good knowledge of the game and has trawled results databases and stats.

Just to update you, we probably won’t be doing other nationality prices cos of the problem in defining the correct result.

There could be some serious confusion over dual passports and it was decided that passport holding was the only way to measure it.

There is something brewing in a pokerstars v the world market though and will update when i have details.

Sounds interesting. Does anybody know the approximate total of players to play in this years wsop main event?. Also roughly how many pokerstars players will qualify?.

I played with Dan Goldberg (or maybe it's Goldbloom... something like that anyway) - the head of marketing every night in Vienna and he said they will be sending at least 100%-150% more players this year. I think there's already something like 500 qualifiers so expect it to be about 1200. As for total figures, there's talks of a 8,000 sell out field.

Lol. You have someone who makes up the numbers based on just how stupid he thinks the public are, based mainly on who's been on TV recently.

RT, you seem to have an enormous bee in your bonnet about PP and the company's prices. Don't bet with PP and we're both happy.

odds checker shows PP's prices are quite generous compared to the rest of the market.

As for your antagonistic response to my reply to someone elses question, I stand by my answer as I have seen said work in practice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,696 ✭✭✭Hectorjelly

The odds given for poker events are so bad industry wide that you have to expect some stick, they really are a joke.

I don't have a bee in my bonnet, I try to give people good advice on this board about how they should gamble their money. I'm sure your man is doing an excellent job but you need to go trawling any databases to set prices like that.

this is one area that i'm going to have to deflect the stick to the relevant department.

all i know is what is involved in getting prices and that PP have never made a profit from poker betting (i admit this may just be bad luck) :)

RT, no problem with you giving advice, or criticising anything for that matter, you just rubbed me up the wrong way with the tone of that post.

Im usually just an observer on boards but i have to ask RT if you worked for PP how would you go about pricing up the main event?? And how would you determine a fav???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,533 ✭✭✭ollyk1

I dunno about RT but I'd do exactly what PP do. Ultimately odds offered are decided by the punters and whom they choose to invest their on.

I'd offer **** odds on the names and take the mug punters money as a default and analyse it as I go from there. Smart punters won't come near you at any sort of prices where you can make a nice juciy profit anyway so why bother pandering to them. And they are moany b*stards!! :p This is like betting on the eurovision or Big brother or something - its a novelty bet with a massive overround.

There is also the issue of a lot of individual specific risk in this market and it would be hard to lay off that risk so I can understand completely offering prohibitve prices as a result. Let the punters take it or leave it as Karl has said to RT above.

The only reason PP didn't make a profit last year is because they couldn't lay off things like their Irish player at the final table risk etc so they were carrying that risk themselves but in the long run this will be a very profitable market for them and as an Irish/UK bookmaker they took a lot of money on those sort of bets.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Norwich Fan Rob

surely any irish player to make the money (top 800 ish) is a great bet at 8/11?
there could be 50+ of us playing, and most would be above average in the field, surely one of us will make the top 10%.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 spem4392

Also how can you put a price on luck? PP i think did a great job on the prices it gives the jo public an added interest with "the players who are on tv all the time"
